Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 01, 2007 Wow, as obsessed as sam is over this game I can't believe we don't have a topic already. Anywhoo, I got the game today and wow. It really is miles ahead of Guitar Hero. It still has your basic GH elements to it in the actual game play but now that the whole band is present, particularly the drums, it really changes the dynamic of the game and makes it feel more real rather than a game with a fake toy guitar. Having said that, however, I have to say that the Rock Band guitar controller is utter carp. It just feels cheap and chintzy; way worse than even the GH2 X-plorer guitar from the 360 version. The buttons have this odd click when you press them and they don't feel realistic at all. Not to mention the strum bar is absolutely awful. I'm not at all surprised that these are already breaking. Hell, there's a giant yellow sticker on my box warning about the breaking of the guitars and what to do should yours break. As if that weren't enough, there's also a giant, hot pink flier as soon as you open the box with even further details. But oh well. I have a GH3 controller to use and the guitar isn't the reason I bought this game in the first place. The drums are the sole reason to pick this game up. They are, quite simply, carp awesome. Anyone else have the game? RE: Rock Band - Elmo - Dec. 01, 2007 My friends love this game, and one bought it, but he didn't seem to complain much about the guitar. He says it feels fine, although that click is the only thing that's even close to bothering him. RE: Rock Band - SexyMichael - Dec. 01, 2007 From what I've read the guitar in Rock Band isn't near as hard on expert, but Rock Band was made to be a party-type games so I guess that's fine. And I was expecting the guitar to be bad. I still can't imagine it being worse than the Kramer, that thing is unbearable. Me and my roommates are going to be picking this up if the Wii release rumor ends up happening. The set list is only 45 songs long, which means a system that supports downloadable content is necessary. Neither of my roommates have a 360, or have any intentions of buying one. RE: Rock Band - Tototototototo - Dec. 01, 2007 My sister and I played this for about 20 minutes inside of a Best Buy. The drums are so much fun. RE: Rock Band - sam's temp - Dec. 01, 2007 what the hell canada is a joke RE: Rock Band - Katashi - Dec. 01, 2007 I'm assuming a group of my friends pitched in to buy this. Time to mooch teh drums (or vocals. Or guitar. I can't really choose, especially since I like doing vocals to begin with and after developing something within the realm of a clinical addiction to GHIII I feel like playing guitar. But I've always love drums, so...)! RE: Rock Band - Katashi - Dec. 10, 2007 I'm double posting and idc. I played this last night. It seems I'm worse at drumming than I thought My friend decided to play drums instead, so I played guitar. Didn't get to try vocals or bass, though. I'm quite depressed about the setlist. Several of the songs are totally stupid IMO. I didn't even get to play Dani Calfornia. Oh well, it might be better if I had played more. RE: Rock Band - Teikger - Dec. 10, 2007 FALL OUT BOY..? Could somebody please tell me why they added them..? Not to mention one of their worse songs..? RE: Rock Band - Bey Brad - Dec. 10, 2007 Teikger Wrote:FALL OUT BOY..? Could somebody please tell me why they added them..? It might have something to do with the fact that not everyone's music taste intersects with yours, but I'm just talking out of my carp here. RE: Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 10, 2007 Tamer Brad Wrote:Teikger Wrote:FALL OUT BOY..? Could somebody please tell me why they added them..? lmfao For real. Rock Band is being marketed as a mainstream product, so what better way to lure people in than songs or bands that everyone knows? If you want to get your screamo/hardcore/insert adjective herecore on, that's what the downloadable content is for. RE: Rock Band - Bey Brad - Dec. 10, 2007 BTW, I actually don't like classic rock much at all, so I'm happy to see ANY modern songs on there. The fact that MCR made it to GH2 on 360 was awesome. Do they have any tracks in Rock Band? *doubts* RE: Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 10, 2007 No, they don't. I wish they did though. I'm not a huge MCR fan or anything, but their songs were fun to play on GH2 so I'd guess they'd be even more so in RB. RE: Rock Band - SexyMichael - Dec. 10, 2007 Out of Radiohead's discography, they put Creep in the game. =( RE: Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 10, 2007 SexyMichael Wrote:Out of Radiohead's discography, they put Creep in the game. Again, Creep is one of their most popular/well known songs. I don't follow Radiohead at all and even I know like every word to the song. lol RE: Rock Band - Guitar_Legend - Dec. 10, 2007 I'm happy they put mainstream bands into Rockband/GH Playing Slipknot/Disturbed/AFI was a lot more fun than alot of the older songs, I thought. RE: Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 10, 2007 The classic rock is really in there for the older players who grew up with the music. RB/GH are trying to appeal to everyone's rock tastes and I think they both do a pretty good job. I do think they both have way too much classic rock though. Especially GH3, but that's excusable because at least the parts are interesting and fun/challenging to play, which can't be said for RB. 99% of the guitar parts in RB are carp. :\ RE: Rock Band - Guitar_Legend - Dec. 10, 2007 ïOAN Wrote:The classic rock is really in there for the older players who grew up with the music. Yeah, I dont have a problem with how they were marketing the game. I was really happy with the song list, there's something out there for everyone, and I was surprised to find myself enjoying songs I didn't think I would. I'd also agree with the classic rock though. And thats too bad about RB, I was afraid that would happen. :\ RE: Rock Band - SexyMichael - Dec. 10, 2007 ïOAN Wrote:SexyMichael Wrote:Out of Radiohead's discography, they put Creep in the game. Creep just really isn't a good representation of the band at all. I kind of put them in an odd position. The first Radiohead gigs were attended primarily for the performance of "Creep"; if they tried to play anything else, the crowd didn't want to hear it, and the band soon started to resent playing it. This led to the band's creation of "My Iron Lung", which featured as the title song of their next release, My Iron Lung EP (1994), and as track 8 on their second album The Bends (1995). This track deals with how "Creep" was the song they relied on, how it was their "life-support", their "iron lung". Thom explained in an interview that they didn't want to stop playing it as that would be making a big deal about it, however he often made comments before the song on stage which suggested he had little respect for anyone who wanted to hear it. After mid 1998 they did not play the song live at all until the final encore of their hometown concert at South Park in Headington in Oxford in 2001, when they played it in a seemingly impromptu decision after an equipment failure on the keyboard near the start of "Motion Picture Soundtrack". Since then they have played it 15 more times (including a performance of the song as they headlined V Festival 2006) Is what wikipedia has to say on it. The film "Meeting People is Easy" really shows what the band had to go through in their early years, it's a great watch for anyone who cares. And overall, Radiohead just has much better songs, it was a lame choice from a musical perspective. The marketing perspective is a totally different boat. I'd rather buy something than be sold something either way. RE: Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 10, 2007 That's rather whiny of them, to be honest. "Oh noez, everyone loves this song we wrote that pretty much made a name for us. They bought tickets to our show to hear us play it. Let's decide to hate it and rarely play it from now on just to rebel." I understand that being a one trick pony isn't fun and they wanted to show they had more work besides Creep that was good, but god... That's just stupid. It's basically like going to a Lynard Skynard show just to have them refuse to play "Free Bird". It's their land mark song; the one everyone loves and WANTS to hear. Anyway, you're lying to us and yourself if you think you've never been sold on something. RE: Rock Band - SexyMichael - Dec. 10, 2007 That's a bit insensitive of you Roan. Dir en grey stopped playing songs like Yokan years ago. Protest the Hero doesn't play any of their old songs anymore(Except I am Dmitri Karamazov and the World is My Father) If you were receiving so much credit for a song you felt wasn't worth it, and your fan base consisted of a bunch of people who simply heard that one song and put it on their ipod, how would you react? Any band could have written Creep. If Radiohead had chose to ride it's coat tails, then the band would have been labeled as "Popular" and a "One Hit Wonder". Instead they moved away from the pop-style music and revolutionized what music is today. RE: Rock Band - Teikger - Dec. 10, 2007 ..And suddenly this topic becomes a Radio Head Topic. Also, I play whatever songs are on Rock Band. Just as long as they did'nt put "Barracuda" on that carp, there's maybe one screamo/whatever song on RB that I see so far, and that's Flyleaf, no comment. RE: Rock Band - sam's temp - Dec. 10, 2007 This thread is now about Radio Head. RE: Rock Band - Roan - Dec. 10, 2007 Well in my own defense, the Radiohead discussion (at first anyway) was still relevant to the topic. I'm not replying to it anymore. I'm stuck on Vasoline on Hard (playing drum part). I know I can play it but for some reason I always bomb out at about the 3/4's mark.
