Everyone who is posting things on the universe that they find on the internet, please pick up a copy of "A Brief History of Time" or "The Universe in a Nutshell" by Stephen Hawking. It explains a lot.

It is important to remember these are theories based on hypotheses, the truth is that we don't actually know. We have never been able to do experiments on anything we haven't brought back to earth with the exception of data gathered from probes. Obviously if a probe were sucked into a black hole we wouldn't get any data back either, so we need to think of ways to study singularities to prove or disprove modern theory.

True, but saying that you can even ORBIT one is insane and just plain silly, no? If the gravity would not allow light to even orbit it, how would a human, or anything a human makes? It makes no sense. Though a way to study them WOULD be interesting, especially since light-speed doesn't seem possible.

That's not a weird fact. In fact, that is part of an Weird Al Yankovic song, called "Bob". A less well-known one is this: "Able was I ere I saw Elba". That is what is called a perfect palindrome. No re-spacing needed.

If nothing is impossible, that means it's possible, that something can be impossible. Oh yeah that's right. Also, teddy bears kill more people than real bears. Something from smosh. People have tripped on teddy bears and fell down the stairs. DEATH. Once a teddy bear clogged up a pool or a tank or something. the point is, the clog made a LOT of fish die. DEATH. Just read omg facts.

I must say the most interesting theory I have heard about black holes, which isn't like that of most, is that black holes are black stars, which have enormous gravity wells capable of pulling all nearby matter into themselves including photons. Of course if this were true, the the end of a black hole is not the end of time but indeed the end of life. Of course it's just a theory.

This is why I'd love to study astronomy. We know almost NOTHING about what's really out there. There is actually a sequel to Animal Farm, though it was not written by George Orwell. It is called "Snowball's Chance", and it shows all of the issues with capitalism, though it also depicts how it's better than a failed attempt at socialism.

This is considered "brain capacity", and it is used for our thoughts, while the other 90% is used to keep us alive. Now, who told you otherwise, seeing as I've had two Biology classes tell me this.
That 90% of your brain keeps you alive. It does something. It is used. If we didn't use all of our brain, we'd be dead...

RE: Weird Facts u know - Temporal - Aug. 08, 2011

But it's not used for THINKING, nor is it a conscious decision. You can't say "I'm gonna stop using my brain!" and just die because everything shuts down, can you? Nope.

Plus, I already said that. Note the "Access" part.

sorry to porve your thing wrong about 10%, the mythbusters tested that with hi-tech machinery and the average use was about 30%
this is an awesome one:

about 50% of the planets population has skills they don't know about, and they never will!
about 25% have the mental capacity to understand albert einsteins theory of relativity but if they read it they don't.
about 10% of the population have a link to the spirit world

found it out at school

Ah, okay. But is this average use or what's accessed regularly? I know that you could theoretically use more, but you'd likely have some negative side effects.

Here, I'll use one of my quotes:

It takes 42 muscles to frown, 28 muscles to smile, but only 4 muscles to reach out and slap someone.

True fact, honest!

But really, guys. Isn't this what snapple caps are for?

1. There are over 50,000 germs on a toilet handle in a public bathroom.
2. The most expensive flower is priceless.
3. Most money is spent on gardening.
4. One sperm cell contains 37.7 MB of DNA. In three seconds there are 137.5GB of DNA, and you thought 3G was fast...
5. Dogs, Hamsters, Mammals can swim.
6. We humans are Mammals.
7. If you touch a new born baby hamster, the mother will think the baby is dead or critically hurt so they will eat their baby. Unhappy

RE: Weird Facts u know - Temporal - Aug. 13, 2011

Anything with hair is usually a mammal. You learn this in 2nd grade, man. It's not really a weird, or even a lesser-known fact.

RE: Weird Facts u know - NoodooSoup - Aug. 13, 2011

Not sure if it's true, but you can only taste if you smell. Try it! Eat a piece of food while sniffing a can or cup of soda; you probably will taste soda! Grin

Also, one of my personal favorites; not really a fact, but more of a study. Any one heard of the Placebo Effect? Telling someone something and making them think something will make it true to them. For example, tell someone that a piece of food tastes like, lets say mango, they'll actually taste mango! It works most of the time; I've tried! That's also why when you have a stomach ache, you should try to forget you have one; if your brain thinks you don't, then you won't! Pretty cool, eh?

RE: Weird Facts u know - Temporal - Aug. 13, 2011

This works. It is an important part of testing a drug. Say I have a new drug that immediately fixes a stomachache. I have two groups and I give them each a pill telling them that it can cure their stomachache. While one is a fake, some people will have their stomachache go away. I have no idea why.

RE: Weird Facts u know - Annoying-Fork - Aug. 13, 2011

Can we include video game facts?

As many already know or likely know, there are color alterations in Mortal Kombat 4's system for distinguishing mirror matches (just like all the others before), but there are actual alternate uniforms. These alternate uniforms can be Mortal Kombat 3 versions or completely official to only this specific sequel.

However; Noob Saibot having been an unlockable character, overshadowed the fact that Scorpion's "third" uniform was supposed to be that of a conceptual, secret fighter of some sort. He wears a blue version of his ninja outfit a lot like UMK3's sub-zero classic, with the bare exceptions being his unmasked skull and the same exact moveset as Scorpions. Mortal Kombat Project (fan made) included an identical version of this hidden fighter only on the 2D scale. The name was generically put "Dark". Because Mortal Kombat 4's limited window of development, he couldn't truly branch out as a hidden fighter of unique ability, or an actual backstory.

Here's proof: http://www.mortalkombatwarehouse.com/mk4/scorpion/animations/03.gif

U want gaming facts?
Tekken 6 might be the last of the Tekken series that Namco makes. If u dont know wat Tekken is.... U hav a long way to go....
Anyway i hav 3 more facts
1. The American army tried to train bats to bomb people in WWII

2. Big Ben, a clock in London, lost time once because birds used the minute hand as a perch

3. And 3rdly this is my favourite fact. If u dont hav a superstition of Friday, Then read this: In the nineteenth century, the British navy attempted to disprove the superstition that Friday is an unlucky day to embark on a ship. The keel of the new ship was laid on Friday, the ship was named HMS Friday, she was commanded by Captain Friday and finally went to sea on Friday. Results: Never heard of again

RE: Weird Facts u know - Temporal - Aug. 14, 2011

Pleh, faulty design. PLAN BETTER, dudes, and you'd make it back. This is why you don't go out of your way for stupid stuff. You end up like the HMS (Hah) Friday.

RE: Weird Facts u know - To - Aug. 14, 2011

Tekken 6 isn't the last Tekken game, lol. Bandai Namco already announced Tekken Tag Team 2, which is very far in development, Tekken Wii U/3DS and there's also Tekken x Street Fighter. Tekken 7 might not be released soon, but Tekken will be far from over.

RE: Weird Facts u know - ProjectLegion - Aug. 14, 2011

I got one i think some already know

Do you know why turtles' shell grow with they body?

The bone core is the turtle's own ribcage and breastbone grown together. This part grows like any other bone does, mostly adding along the flat edges- like a human skull. In fact, if you look at a skull and a turtle's bone shell, you'll see the same little zig-zaggy 'suture lines' joining the different bones together. Most growth occurs along these lines.

Covering that is a layer if living skin that is the same skin as the turtle has on its head, feet, etc. This is pretty normal reptilian skin. It is made up of layers with the outer layers being 'deader' then the inner layers. The very outermost layer is totally dead, and is formed into scales. With turtles, the scales are more like bony nodules in the skin, more like alligators than snakes.

Along the back, this outer 'horny' layer grows more fiberous and tough- like fingernails. It is organized into specialized scales called 'scutes'. As the turtle grows, the scute is stretched and adds a ring of growth around the edges. On some turtles, this makes a distinctive texture that looks like a tree's rings, while on others, it is so smooth as to be nearly invisible.

Another cool element is the way the pigment in the shell moves. In some species, a cluster of pigments starts in the center of the shell and as it gorws, the cells 'stretch', making star-like streaks. With others, pigment cells appear and vanish almost randomly, making blotches. Others add rings of pigments, yet others have literally meandering 'rivers' of pigment.
