Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 28, 2009

OK, this is something I tried to get started back before MFB was announced, and failed. Now things have changed.

The basic idea is to have a podcast on beyblade. I already have some experience in this matter, and would be willing to work hard on the show, but a few others would be needed. With the new beyblades coming out, there has never been so much to discuss. The finer details could be worked out later - such as the length, contents and frequency of production.

The main aim is to currently find out if people are interested in listening to such a show (it would be free), and who would be willing to give up some time to help produce and organise the show.

Remember it does not cost much to take part in a podcast. All that is required is headset with a microphone (about £10, $15). The rest of the show is easily made through free programs.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - BlueLink - Mar. 28, 2009

I think it sounds great if you could go over all of the parts, the functions of them, and their advantages and disadvantages. It would give the new players a review of what has happened and what is to come.

But two problems, wouldn't you run out of material? Sure the new line came out, and there is lots to talk about, but how often will new blades/parts come out?

Also I find myself ignoring long podcasts (I just don't have the time to listen to 45 min podcast, I'm just too busy) so how long do you think an episode would be?

Anyway, sounds great if done properly! Good luck!

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 28, 2009

I think with regards to the length 30-35 minutes would be appropriate, though this would be a question which those involved would have to figure out together based on the time available to them. I agree that podcasts of 45 minutes can drag and you generally don't listen properly after this time.

As for content, this is also applicable to how often a show is released. Also, the best podcasts out there have their show geared towards a pattern of longeivity, and for us it would be finding a segment, or part of the show which was always fresh and different.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Commie - Mar. 28, 2009

I would watch it.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Aikemi - Mar. 28, 2009

i already have the mic and all..ummm i guess if enough people are interested id definately be interested in this Smile

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 28, 2009

We are talking about an audio show - a bit like a radio show.

A show to watch would be impossible due to a need for cameras, and other expensive equipment, not too mention a place to film and a location where enough people could meet up to make the show.

A podcast can be recorded over the internet with skype, and is completely audio based. It would be in MP3 format so you could listen on your iPod, or MP3 Player, or whatever.

Oh, and we have one person interested. Great

I'm in, I sent you a PM.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 28, 2009

To make it simple - anyone interested in helping out should just pm me

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Ash - Mar. 28, 2009

I'm willing to help, its just I sound really young on the microphone :3

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Bey Brad - Mar. 29, 2009

I'm not sure I see the point of it.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 29, 2009

The point is that it is a direct voice to those listening. They don't have to read text, or look around for information - it is, in a way, the lazy option. Bladers will have an actual voice behind the info.

Plus, they can stick it on in the background while posting on WBO, or listen to it when travelling. They won't have to be always connected to the internet to be hearing about Beyblade, as they can store it on their iPods, or whatever.

Plus, it's free - for everyone. Its free to listen to and to make. All thats required to record it is a microphone which many computer users already possess. There are also many sites that host podcasts for free.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Bey Brad - Mar. 29, 2009

The thing is, discussing Beyblade isn't something that lends itself well to audio. It's very much a visual game and images with accompanying, detailed text are the best way to convey information. Exactly what are we going to talk about that doesn't get discussed on these forums or on the Wiki ad nauseum?

This site is free to everyone (well, except me) already.

You guys can make this and post about it if you really want to, but the WBO won't be involved.

Each to their own, but podcasts have done wonders for franchises in the past.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Bey Brad - Mar. 29, 2009

That's really not an explanation of the advantages of this format. I want to hear what this offers over what we're doing already.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 29, 2009

It is simply something extra, a little entertainment. Something more to add. It is another encouragement for people to remain interested.

I understand some people will dislike the idea. That's up to them. It will become quite clear after a few shows if it is worth making. We might as well give it a go and see where it leads.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Bey Brad - Mar. 29, 2009

I find the fact that you seemingly can't provide any compelling reason to do this a bit disheartening.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 29, 2009

I've given reasons.
Can I enquire - Have you ever listened to a podcast before?

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Bey Brad - Mar. 29, 2009

Yes, I have. I'm not a huge fan of them because I'd prefer to listen to music and read about the subject matter. Wink So if you're trying to decide if I'm simply biased against them, then yes, I am. But I also honestly think that -- and keep in mind I've been writing about Beyblade for the better half of a decade -- this is not a subject that lends itself well to audio discussion.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Aikemi - Mar. 29, 2009

Er, sorry to intrude but why dont we make as show and have people vote on if they think its worth making or not

RE: Beyblade Podcast - DriggerDX - Mar. 29, 2009

I can see where you are coming from, but you don't have show a video of a beyblade in action to review it, and discuss its strengths and weaknesses. Books do this all the time without video aid and their are those who are not fond of reading.

It would also be a lot easier to discuss the new anime, and techniques than through text as it would flow better and quicker, without the user having to wait on responses from others. don't get me wrong, the user needs somewhere to discuss their own beyblading problems directly, and this is where the forum comes in, but for general topics the podcast would be more effective.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Commie - Mar. 29, 2009

Ohh, like a radio show? It seems kind of boring, but I'd listen to it.

But a video podcast would be better, because then like you can show part's advantages in battle and stuff.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Khel - Mar. 29, 2009

Honestly, don't see the point of this. There is not much that you can talk about without regurgitating wiki articles or Kai-V's release updates. You need new information or strong opinions on the subject matter (not easy to do with this game) to differentiate it from other information mediums. I probably would not listen to it with any sort of frequency since I read this forum in enough detail, but I am willing to be proven wrong.

Just as disclosure, I have never like many audio podcasts, other than some music ones like 'A state of Trance' and a couple of game one's.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - Giga - Mar. 29, 2009

I would be in, if I can get a mic XD

This^
I would have watched a video one, but just audio is pretty boring, IMO, and I wouldn't be able to listen to it. There isn't much to add that isn't already on the forums, and I read the forums about every day.

RE: Beyblade Podcast - NAP - Mar. 29, 2009

This reminds me of a Beywiki Newsletter discussion we've had awhile back. It's a good idea in theory, but would be hard (since the subject is beyblade) and should ultimately fail.
