Your friends AMVs are alright. Even though the editing is good, it just seems like random clips were spliced together.

Driger, you might want to start with using the japanese raws. The time will still show up in the top left corner, but you should be able to cover that up. And maybe upgrade from WMM?
I really don't think Beyblade is a good source anime for Amv's, TBH. Unless you want to spend time with annoying f2f masking.

Once you use a more complex video editing program (for me Sony Vegas 8.0), you can create your own signature video editing style and try out new stuff, as you can see in the video, which I made myself. Rather short, but meh.
