I didn't really realise that it was particularly a requirement that you need to be active haha

What's the point in mentors that are never around?

This is a good point. I think you guys should remove all of the mentors and start the system fresh.

As a current mentor who is not as active as he use to be and isn't really into burst I can agree with this. The majority of the mentors are all more accustomed to all the MFB formats and really got their "claim to fame" with knowledge in those formats. MFB is now a format of the past and Burst is whats in and what appears to be played in a lot of the recent events. I think it would be for the best if we stripped the majority of the mentors privileges and maybe promoted some current active burst members, it was cool being a mentor but I honestly don't think I nor some of the other mentors are really qualified for burst.

Also has the committee ever thought about resetting the points, it seems like another reasonable thing to do with a new format. I know it is years of points and experiences, but most competitive games (if they have a form of a ranking system) restart it ever new format, year or generation to keep the game fresh.

Think about it in real life. Let's say there is an Algebra I teacher who has a ton of students. Then, the next year all those students decide to take Algebra II and the upcoming class doesn't have as many students taking that course. Should he be stripped of his teacher title? I don't think so. So in this context, if a format gets less popular the experts of that format should still be mentors even if most of the interest dies out. There will always be newer members who want to expand there interest in MFB and we will always need mentors to teach them.

Well, if someone were active but specifically knowledgeable in plastics or HMS, I would want them as a Mentor anyway, no ? Plus Burst is so recent that nobody really dares write part drafts for the Beyblade Wiki about them, so I do not know if we have totally reached a point where there are mentors of Beyblade Burst knowledge-wise.

Obviously we encourage everyone to become interested in Beyblade Burst as well, but all of the other formats will not just fade to complete oblivion, so if there are still experts of those who are decently active, it is important to keep them, in my opinion.

I do think we are planning to implement an "inactive" state or whatever if someone has clearly not played in years and is just blocking the top ranks without proving that they are still worth it. That will be done whenever we can do a makeover for the BeyPoint System, hopefully soon but it will take a few months. There is no point in restarting the whole thing though if we can successfully implement that and that we separate the results processing in different formats.

I fully agree with you, Kai-V. Especially in the old formats, that many young users aren't too familiar with, some guys that are into those are needed to keep them and the knowledge about them alive. And the mentor status is a quite good way to identify them. If we only have official mentors for the newest series, the old will probably be forgotten.
And tbh, I wouldn't be too happy, if all the infos about the old gens that I have been gathering during the last 15 years officially wouldn't be worth anything anymore. And I'm quite sure there are others, who'd feel the same. The mentor status is something we've been working hard to achieve and just ignoring the knowledge about the original beyblades and only taking that about the newest into account when deciding, who's someone to preferably ask, is a discrimination that I would definitely not support.

Edit: Brad, I'm also quite interested in what exactly you consider being active enough. Do you mean you have to be online a few hours a day or would it also be enough to answer pm's and check threads of your topic once every day?

RE: Questions about the WBO - Bey Brad - Dec. 10, 2015

For what it's worth, we are definitely not trying to abandon MFB, and will continue to support the MFB community and events as much as we can for as long as there is interest in it.

RE: Questions about the WBO - ~Stoney~ - Dec. 10, 2015

That's awesome, but I actually meant the plastics and HMS gen. Grin

RE: Questions about the WBO - Bey Brad - Dec. 10, 2015

Yeah, but I'm talking about MFB. There is not a lot we can do for plastics and HMS when those products are so prohibitively expensive to obtain.

Quote:Edit: Brad, I'm also quite interested in what exactly you consider being active enough. Do you mean you have to be online a few hours a day or would it also be enough to answer pm's and check threads of your topic once every day?

Not even this – a few posts a week even would be fine.

RE: Questions about the WBO - Neo - Dec. 10, 2015

I wouldn't say prohibitively, completely..
HMS, competitively is kind of prohibitive. I'll agree. The 3 $5 HMS are what people will own, but it's unlikely they'll go beyond and get things like Wubbums or Dragoon MS.

But finding a Master Dragoon, Wolborg 2, etc etc usually isn't very expensive if you know where to look and when to strike. I do find it kinda sad how few Plastics tournaments are held in North America.

And there's your problem - in addition to actually learning about the format and metagame itself, there's a whole new set of skills you need to learn to even be able to buy the things without getting massively ripped off.

RE: Questions about the WBO - Bey Brad - Dec. 10, 2015

As much as I love plastics and HMS, I feel like it makes no sense to organize a seriously competitive environment for them.

Why? Because there isn't enough of an active playerbase?

You just have to prey on mom's selling their kid's old collection of Dragoon GTs :p

No sense? Could you elaborate that point?

RE: Questions about the WBO - Bey Brad - Dec. 10, 2015

Sure. There's a few reasons:
  • Obviously, yes, one of the major limitations is that that the playerbase of Beyblade in general right now is very small; the number of Bladers who could really compete in Plastics/HMS events is incredibly minimal
  • Because of the high cost, we can't offer any meaningful prize support for Plastics/HMS events
  • As many Bladers have noticed, we have yet to build out a separate ranking system for Burst; ranking plastics and HMS would require is to build even more ranking systems

Ultimately, to try and build a real competitive system around Plastics/HMS would be a ton of work that benefits an extremely small group of people. We will continue to host plastics and HMS events when there is demand, but no matter what we do, it would never be a "competitive" environment in the first place for more than a vanishingly small handful of people.

RE: Questions about the WBO - Neo - Dec. 10, 2015

Can't you just have the Bakuten Face Boosters as prizes?
Plastics and HMS ranking could be a sort of long term goal, though, once your current works are done, right?

As for the rest; I do feel as if there were more of a push towards hosting these formats, more people would be interested. I think it should be a cool idea to focus on, later on down the road, if at all possible.

The player-base for HMS and plastics is likely to shrink from here, not grow. We'll continue to host plastics and HMS tournaments whenever we can (plastics still happen in India), but the number of locations where there are enough players of those formats to justify ranking them is ... pretty much zero.

You could argue that us trying to more aggressively host plastics format tournaments could increase interest in the format, however:

1. Due to the lull in overseas Beyblade releases, we barely can get enough participants in most of our active communities

2. It's in the WBO's best interest to focus energy on Burst; consequently, if we encourage players to invest in plastics/HMS, we are drawing them away from Burst and, to an extent, MFB

3. Once our "current works" are done, we'll keep moving onto new projects; we don't run out of things to do ever

RE: Questions about the WBO - Neo - Dec. 10, 2015

Was suggesting that you focus on raising the interest slightly.
Obviously most people now are focused on Burst, as it's the current; or MFB as that's what the WBO has been raised on for a number of years.
Right now, for lack of better words, it just seems as if hosting a Plastics or HMS Tournament is slightly discouraged.

Quote:Was suggesting that you focus on raising the interest slightly.

How? And why?

Quote:Right now, for lack of better words, it just seems as if hosting a Plastics or HMS Tournament is slightly discouraged.

Why do you think so, other than the fact that there isn't a ranking system for it?

Worth mentioning that we did a pretty big push in July but there weren't a lot of events, and while I can't speak for other communities, the tournament here in Montreal was the furthest thing from competitive: almost everyone played with cobbled together combos.

I like how everybody ignored my post above and restated a bunch of it in their own posts lol.

RE: Questions about the WBO - Bey Brad - Dec. 11, 2015

I am not sure why people so often assume their posts have been ignored just because they weren't directly replied to. Unhappy Since that's what Kai-V actually thinks about the matter, I suspect her reply would have been the same whether or not you had responded!

That said, I am not sure your metaphor works. A more apt metaphor would be whether a teacher who never shows up to teach anything should keep his job or not Tongue_out There was never any mention of stripping people of their mentor status just because they're not into Burst.
