HMV are total bastards. I don't know whether theyre dull or just didnt want to serve us today.
Im 16, my mate is 17, go to buy a 15 DVD both with a stack of AS-Level books in our hands (Great indication here that we're in college, therefore OLDER than 15) and theyre like "You got ID?"

JESSSSUS!
The people upstairs were better and we got served then, but still, I don't know what makes the workers there so pissy, its happened to us more than once now.

how dare those carp try to do their jobs and not assume our ages based on a book we have in our hands

jesus stop bitching about everything and just show them your ID

Uhm, in the UK, you dont have ID until the age of 18, soooooo. You can't?

Considering you have to be over 16 to be in college here (And they dont accept College ID cards as a form of ID either, we tried that) it's kinda obvious, since I doubt people walk around with College books in their hands unless they need to.

I don't have any ID saying I am 18, well, I didn't go to college so yeah.

We get Bromley Identificaton Zone Cards at like 16 here. I've never heard of anywhere else having similiar cards though. They're pretty cool because you can get student discount with them and they're a really pretty blue. Smile

what were you buying that required ID in the first place?

also i refuse to believe that you are given absolutely no identification until you're 18.

oh look i'm right: http://www.ips.gov.uk/identity/scheme-what.asp

Only form of ID you can get at 18 is Drivers liscense here. So unless you drive, you wont have any.

They dont accept provisionals as a liscense here, because you can get those from 17, so you could be 17 or over, but they cant risk that.
and Passports. but who the hell carries that around with them unless they want to pay £80 for a new one?

1: That is something they are TRYING to bring in. They havent yet since its been all over the papers and a lot of protest about it recently.

And my mate was trying to buy a age-15-rated movie called Memento.
So yeah.

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - Bey Brad - Jan. 15, 2009

read post above yours, i am more educated about UK government than you

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - May The Pirate - Jan. 15, 2009

You also forgot to read this bit:

http://www.ips.gov.uk/identity/scheme-what-how.asp

and how can you be more educated in the UK when I live here and know the rules?
To me you dont seem to know that much considering you thought we had ID cards when they havent even been issued yet.

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - Bey Brad - Jan. 15, 2009

well damn then

also what the hell you have age limits for 15 year olds?

also memento is the greatest movie ever

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - May The Pirate - Jan. 15, 2009

We have age limits for:
12
15
18

Our censoring system is very different from yours so I hear, psych teacher (Shes from Canada, so we kinda hear all about the place) said yours goes on systems like "R-rated" and stuff like that.

Also that some words mean rude things to us, but nothing to you.

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - Dreamborn - Jan. 15, 2009

one of the big debates with those ID cards was that they were going to charge citizens £300 each for a card that keeps an eye on you and what you do.

And yep, we have loads of silly restrictions over here (and they're trying to put age limits like that on our computer games too)

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - mdhvdukshsj - Jan. 15, 2009

do teenagers (~16) live alone in the UK? i know they're already in college, but do they move away already?

if so, wow

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - Bey Brad - Jan. 15, 2009

yeah the UK is kind of creepy in how much it watches and censors its citizens

fyi the only age limit actually enforced on media here is 17 for games, 18 for movies, everything else is basically a "recommendation"

RE: Random Thoughts 2: ok, more like misc. thoughts - Zander Soulwind - Jan. 15, 2009

England is a tight place and sure you say about driving license but who really has the money to get to that point at that age. Espically when you can't get a job because it keeps getting worse and worse here.
