Florida Beyblade Tournament Report: Killerken Game - Trsal - May. 31, 2025

After watching the second season of Squid Game, I started thinking about how I could incorporate Beyblade into it. For those unaware, Squid Game is a Netflix series where people in South Korea play deadly versions of children's games for a chance to win a cash prize. My goal for the event was to create at least three games I could manage solo, followed by a final single-elimination bracket, all while keeping some of the show's spirit. I came up with several games but narrowed it down to five, like in the show. I initially capped the event at 30 players due to limited parking and space for my game setups, but demand was high—so I opened 10 extra spots with a twist. To claim a spot, you had to be one of the first 10 people to solve a math problem within an hour. Many tried, but only seven succeeded. The problem was:
6 ÷ 2(1+2) = ?
On the day of the event, 28 out of 37 registered Bladers showed up. For prizes, I purchased a $100 Visa gift card and had a trophy made. We started 30 minutes late due to travel delays and car issues for some players coming from different parts of Florida.

Game 1: One-Handed Assembly (28 Bladers remain)
I came up with this game early in development. Players had 20 seconds to assemble a Beyblade using only one hand. They could pick up all the parts at once or one at a time but could only use the same hand and couldn’t use the table or any other body part to aid in assembly. The combo used was Keel Shark 4-70 Q. Many had trouble connecting the Bit to the Ratchet, and a few were eliminated for not following the assembly rules. After this round, we had 14 Bladers left.

Game 2: Beyblade Archery (14 Bladers remain)
I set up a stadium with a poster board behind it, took five steps back, and marked the launch spot with a Wii Fit board. Players had two attempts to launch a provided Beyblade into the stadium from behind the board. I allowed some leniency with leaning over the board, but their feet couldn't pass or be on the board. I was nervous because half the field had already been eliminated, and even I struggled with this game during testing. By the end, we were down to 7 players, which meant I had to improvise for the next game.

Bonus Game: Revival (7 Bladers remain)
I had an idea of hiding a Bey somewhere on the club house property so that after round 2, someone could find and use it to revive themself- buuut with the amount of people left, I allowed the person who found the Bey to revive themself and 10 other Bladers. It was pretty fun watching people plead their case on why they should get revived, it was also super wholesome for the group to insist for the 2 kids that signed up to be revived first.

Game 3: Beyblade Mingle (18 Bladers remain)
This was the most complex game and the one closest to Squid Game thematically. Bladers had to build a combo using only the first four Blades released in Beyblade X:
  • Dran Sword 3-60F
  • Hells Scythe 4-60T
  • Knight Shield 3-80N
  • Wizard Arrow 4-80B
Players could use stock combos or mix and match. Once combos were locked in with me, the game began. Players walked in a circle holding out their combos while this music played. When the music stopped, I called out a part (chosen at random). Anyone with that part had to pair up and battle in a BO3 to 4 points. Losers were eliminated. If an odd number of players had that part, the odd one out was eliminated—unless only one player had it, in which case they were safe. We did four rounds. The parts called were: B, F, (can't remember), and 4-60. Only one player had 4-60 which resulted in no eliminations in the final round. Due to the nature of the game, some Bladers played more than once, while others didn't have to play at all and survived.

Game 4: Flat-Out Survival (10 Bladers remain)
Simple challenge: build a combo using F and see who could spin the longest in one attempt. The four shortest times were eliminated. Surprisingly, F spun for a long time—most players broke 50 seconds, and two exceeded 55. A few self-KOed and were eliminated as a result.

Game 5: Stadium Roulette (6 Bladers remain)
This was the final game before the bracket. Players built a 3-on-3 deck, but one combo had to be swapped with their opponent. Scorpion Spear, Wizard Rod, Silver Wolf, and Elevate were banned. Repeated parts were allowed for the swapped combos. After building, players spun a wheel to determine their stadium: Hasbro Bucket, X Standard, or Double Extreme.
Matchups:
Vyno vs Rirokashi

Nelsoph vs CocoaNutt

CosmoDragon vs Bones

Nelsoph vs CocoaNutt went first in the Hasbro Bucket. I don’t remember what they swapped, but both combos were bad, and the bucket didn’t help. We ruled that launches out of the stadium counted as Extreme Finishes. CocoaNutt seemed set to win, but Nelsoph clutched a last-minute Extreme Finish to secure her spot in the final 3.
Vyno vs Rirokashi took place in X Standard. Ironically, they swapped Xover combos. The battle was tight, but Rirokashi won. Major respect to Vyno—she was one of only two Bladers in the top 6 who didn’t get revived after Game 2 and made it to Game 5 on pure skill.
CosmoDragon vs Bones finished it off in the Hasbro Bucket. I wish I kept track of their combos, but I was focused on keeping things moving. The battle was close, everyone had fun, and Bones came out on top.

Game 6: Final Bracket (3 Bladers remain)
The final game was a simple 3-on-3, best-of-3, round-robin bracket.
Match 1: Nelsoph vs Bones
Bones used a Knight-themed deck, while Nelsoph brought anti-attackers and Venom. Nelsoph was able to secure her victory against Bones but it wasn’t over for Bones quite yet as he had to face Rirokashi.
Match 2: Bones vs Rirokashi
Rirokashi vs Bones was a good fight with Bones’ Knights facing Rirokashi’s all-out attack deck. Although Bones had the upper hand in the type triangle, that did not slow down Rirokashi’s brute force attacks and Rirokashi ultimately took the final set eliminating Bones.
Final Match: Nelsoph vs Rirokashi
The first battle was fought tooth and nail to 4 points for both bladers, but Rirokashi was able to inch out the final point. But in the second set when all hope was lost, Nelsoph was able to make a comeback from 0-4 to win the second set with some good KOes. In set 3, Rirokashi tapped into his inner power and ended the set with a poetic Xtreme KO on Nelsoph- seen here in this video made by Euro

Final Standings and Combos
 1st – Rirokashi
  • Cobalt Dragoon 1-60L
  • Phoenix Wing 3-60R
  • Samurai Saber 9-60T
 2nd – Nelsoph
  • Venom 3-60LF
  • Tyranno Beat 1-60LR
  • Golem Rock 6-60R
 3rd – Bones
  • Knight Shield ???
  • Knight Lance ???
  • Knight Mail ???

I had a ton of fun putting this event together. There are definitely things I could have done better, but I wanted to run it completely solo to preserve the secrecy of the games and let everyone play without spoilers.
Please feel free to leave suggestions or share your experience if you attended.
Thank you to everyone who came out!

It’s a game. No squids are included. Very fun nonetheless.

Sounds like it was a ton of fun! I'm bummed I missed out on it, but keep up the fun goofy tourneys. You're an awesome host and friend!!

This was a great event. Every round was a lot of fun and I enjoyed cheering on others after I was eliminated.

I liked the rounds that weren't battles the most. Like archery and building. Id like to see more of this in the future.

In the future id like to see some sort of losers bracket. The revival was alright but then some people didn't get to try archery. Like if I was out after round one I honestly would have been pretty upset and even if I got back in at the revival it still would have soured the event for me.

The only other feedback I really have is for the finals where there was 3 people left I feel it would have been better to do it in the triple battle stadium. Would have been over quicker and more than just tournament battles with a ban list.
