For a series about toy robots made for kids and teens as a competitive sport, this carp runs deep. And not Yu-Gi-Oh! deep, where card games determine the fate of the world. People get killed offscreen for the sake of world domination; the LBX's are just a "test run" for the bigger picture.

I've watched three anime series that were originally games: Pokemon, Persona 4, and Steins;Gate. In the first two cases, the games control the story through a linear gameplay. Move from point A to point B. In their anime form, they are shortened, and people have said that they do not do the games that much justice or that stuff from the game was cut out for anime time-constraints. What the games lack from their anime department is the drama and emotions the story carries. Persona 4: The Animation's humor increased 10-fold compared to the game. Pokemon, though one of the longest-running series in Japan, may be some what repetitive, but it carries what the game is about in a true story format. The last of the three, Steins;Gate, falls true to its original storyline by giving it a more "animated" form, since the game is kind of like a visual novel.

Danball Senki/Little Battlers eXperience falls under the category the first two sit on. I've seen some gameplay videos on YouTube, and wouldn't it be fun to be playing as Achilles, taking down LBX's like Hakai-O or The Emperor? Battles in the anime are widely expanded to enhance its suspense function (lol LBX joke) more than trying to stay alive in the actual battle. One of the winning points in this anime are the battle animation. Anime-style battling like Dragon Ball Z, or in some cases Digimon, kind of "cheat" a little with "blurs" that represent high-speed battling in such. This anime uses CG animation to detail the "realness" of a fantastical battle. One of the best examples is in the Artemis Tournament arc episodes. As the anime goes on, like the game, the battles get harsher and harsher, and the actual fights become more detailed and fluid, especially the last two episodes of the Artemis Arc.

Twist and turns happen in the story, stuff you would not have expected. There are a few, "OH carp!" moments. I like the story, but the battles are what makes this series one of my favorite anime series of all time.
