Hold Launcher Broken/Destroying Ripcords - Wabuko - Nov. 15, 2024

I had just gotten the Hold Launcher today and whenever I go to launch, the ripcord catches inside the mechanism and destroys the teeth on the ripcord. I've taken the launcher apart and I don't seem to have any loose debris that could catch. Does anyone else have this issue or know a way to fix it?

I did only one light launch with it and it broke so I contacted the place I got it from and they will send another one. Also was your Hold Ripcord straighten? If not that can led to HEAVY damage

Facing the same problem too. While it still does launch, it doesn’t feel smooth and I hate it when that happens. And when I try a new ripcord from a winder, it feels smooth again. But I start to see that rip cord’s teeth getting broken again.

I had your exact issue, and destroyed my entire ripcord. Are the teeth destroyed halfway as well?

I don't have the launcher but if I have dealt with many broken launchers and fixed them by hand so do this
1: Inspect the ripcord
2: If the ripcord is damaged buy one or use a similar one
3: Take apart the launcher and use photos to remember what goes where
4: If there is any damage on the launcher try and 3d print a design to replace it for example is one of the axles is broke you might want to take dimensions to 3d print a new part

These are the steps I take to fix a launcher they usually work!

im guessing this is why they are allowing 3d printed parts to replace ripcords.

Ripcords are not one of the things listed as valid to be 3D printed. Only grips and accessories.

The hold launcher getting caught is a known QA issue and is fixable by taking apart the launcher and loosening a screw. I don't know the details, I'll see if I can summon someone who does know the deets though

I too heard that the hold launcher was rather rough on the teeth of the ripcords from the bladers that used them at my tournament this weekend. Hopefully this thread gets a lot of views from the community and we get word on that diy fix!

still super excited for it tho. should be here in the next couple of days.

RE: Hold Launcher Broken/Destroying Ripcords - Wabuko - Nov. 19, 2024

It's really upsetting because I really like the design of it and I recently broke my regular launcher grip so I'm kinda just using a Battlepass as a grip atp. I'd request a replacement hold launcher but I won't be staying where I am for a while and I feel like I'd be out of the window for replacement. I'm not super worried about it since I'd really only use it for casual use but it's still super disappointing.

Yeah they are being damaged directly halfway through the ripcords

RE: Hold Launcher Broken/Destroying Ripcords - volnutt - Nov. 19, 2024

i'll add pictures in later, but my hold launcher had a double-whammy QA issue where it was catching on the teeth (similar feeling to the original L-string launchers jamming up) and not allowing the plastic ring around the launcher prongs to sit properly.

basically, overtightened screws both inside and out to the point that one of the internal screws were stripped before i ever opened it up.
the worst of it was on the assembly holding in the launcher prong gear that the black/white disc also sits on, then the plastic ring on the underside of the launcher was also overtightened.
very slightly loosening any overtightened screws might help, but y'all could also be having a different issue than mine did.

edit, finally:

the plastic ring around the launcher prongs unable to set properly due to overtightened internals
worth noting that the screws on that were also overtightened, causing the ring to press down on the prongs and contribute to the jank

note how the screw on the left side of the gear+battlepass indicator assembly was already stripped

as far as the repair steps i took on my copy of the launcher specifically:

  1. unscrewed the launcher casing, making sure to keep track of which screw came from which spot and how tight they were screwed in originally

  2. very slightly loosened the already stripped screw on the left side. this being overtightened adds extra friction to the gear assembly, which heavily contributes to the snags.
you want to be careful of how much you loosen this, since being too loose could cause different issues.

  3. pushed the clip from the plastic ring in to its proper spot now that it had enough space to do so

  4. closed the launcher back up, put screws back in their proper place and approximate original tightness

  5. tested with an extra winder. felt much better, but was still snagging a bit

  6. slightly loosened the screws around the plastic ring until it was a consistently smooth launch

this may not help with the issues on your specific launchers, but it's at least a good thing to check first if you'd rather not buy another one

I know right. It sucks too since the Hold Launcher looks so cool to use
