I must sound like a complete idiot but can someone explain to me why the tracks and bottoms are called with numbers and letters

Ask this in Ask a question, get an answer thread.
Numbers are representing the track height, Bottom letters represents the characteristics of it.

You could have simply asked this in random thoughts, or even taken a look at the beywiki entry on MFB.
The number:
85-230 deonate the height of the track
145 for example would be in height 145mm

The lettering at the beggining of a track name is a describer for the track.
DF - Downforce, GB - Gravity Bowl .etc

The lettering at the end of the combination or blade, RF, SD.etc
describes the bottom.
RF - Rubber Flat, SD - Sharp Defense, so on and so forth.
