WBO Organized Play Updates August 2024: Approval Periods, Participant Caps, and More! - Dan - Aug. 13, 2024
Hello World Bladers!
In this update we focus on a lot of house cleaning rather than radical format changes! Notably, making our Event submission timeline a bit more obvious to new Organizers, some refining and reassessing of parts of the Organizer's Guide, as well as de-cluttering an older Burst format ban list!

Organizer's Guide: Event Proposal Approval Turnaround Time of 72 Hours
This isn't a change to the Organized Play Team's informal self-imposed goal of getting Event Proposals out the door within 72 hours, but making that timeframe more clear to everyone by making it a section in the Organizer's Guide.
Previously, this often overlooked detail was only found at the end of the "Schedule an Event" Page rules. We have now added this 72 hour turnaround goal to the Organizer's Guide for increased visibility.
The Organized Play team is strictly comprised of volunteers passionate about playing Beyblade together, and we try to get to things as fast as we can! Unsurprisingly though, we do get pings fairly frequently from newer or inexperienced Organizers informing us that they have submitted an Event for review, often enough within the last 24 hours or less.
We are well aware, and will always get to reviewing Event submissions as soon as we are able!
The new section reads as follows:
Event Schedule Review Period Wrote:The Organized Play team is entirely made up of volunteers but we try to review queued Event Proposals within 72 hours of their submission. In the case of an Event or circumstance that requires a more thorough review and/or internal discussion, the informal 72-hour standard we hold ourselves to will not apply.
Be sure to take this variance in turnaround time into account when planning your Event.
Hopefully this will lead to less confusion or questions down the line. We are always grateful for the patience and support of Organizers.
Organizer's Guide: Participant Cap Rules & Prolonged Organizer Absence Revisited
As mentioned in previous announcements, we are seeing a great influx of new Organizers from all over. With that we wanted to clarify and clean up our stance and recommendations for Organizers regarding a maximum capacity of participants.
Along with all of our autonomous Organizer rhetoric comes the additional responsibility of ensuring that their event is adequately spaced out, meeting relevant local safety and regulatory requirements, and finally progresses in a smooth and enjoyable fashion. These pieces of information are especially important for Organizers organizing events not being held in large, public, outdoor settings.
With that in mind we revised the Participant Caps Section recommendations, as well as adding on a mandatory cap to returning Organizers to match our standards for freshly minted Organizers.
Revised Participant Cap Section Wrote:Generally speaking, we encourage Events to be as open and inclusive as possible. However, depending on the size of your venue, applicable local laws and/or safety regulations, you may need to ensure only a specific number of attendees are present in a given venue space. As an Organizer it is your responsibility to be cognizant of those realities, laws, and guidelines when planning your Event.
We recommend all Organizers enact participant caps that align with applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards. Be sure to also take into consideration all resources and staff available to you to ensure that your Event runs safely and smoothly. Review and propose your suggested participant capacity accordingly.
If you would like to propose an event with no cap at all, you must mention this in your proposal along with supplemental Event information if requested prior to approval. The Organized Play Team will review your request and let you know whether or not the Event is eligible for advertisement on the WBO platform as-is.
The addition to the end of our Returning Organizer's section reads as follows:
Hosting After a Prolonged Absence (1 Year) Section Addition Wrote:For Organizers that haven’t hosted an event in over a year we require a mandatory maximum participant cap of 24 for their first returning event.
Ranked Clauses Guide: Reassessing Gatinko Layers in Burst Limited
Three months after Burst Limited was first introduced, certain Gatinko Layers were added to the format. The reasoning behind this was to add even more accessibility to the format during an experimental period where everything was being trialed. This also reconciled the problem that some Bladers felt, with their GT parts no longer having a WBO format where they belonged.
Since then, the Burst GT format has been introduced. In addition we found that the few Gatinko Layers legalized in the Burst Limited Format added little to the accessibility claim and are not particularly relevant to the current metagame.
As a result, we determined that it would be more advantageous to reduce the clutter of the Burst Limited Format ban list, making it more approachable for new Organizers looking to try a different format.
Having said that, we do not wish to completely take away existing options from Organizers that appreciate the addition of these Layer Bases. The Layer Bases found in the the previous ban list have been moved over to the Burst Limited Format section of the Ranked Clauses Guide so potentially affected Organizers have some recourse following this change.
Burst Limited Ranked Clauses Wrote:#8: Unban of Selected Gatinko Layers
The following Gatinko Layer Bases may also be used in this tournament: Ace, Rock, Grand, Slash, Venom, Erase, Union. All Gatinko Chips except Diabolos 1 are allowed, and the Gen Layer Weight must be used.
