Oh god don't get me started.
I will never be one to come out and say that Zune is stronger than iPod in every category (because it isn't), but if you're looking for a portable media player that meets and/or exceeds most of what you'll find in the Apple camp, the Zune really is the best choice.
It has podcast support, the sound quality across all of the devices (4gb, 8gb, 30gb and 80gb) is really, REALLY good, the devices themselves have a nice (but subtle design), complete with the option to custom laser etch artwork on the back via www.zuneoriginals.com, the pc software is elegant and really easy to use, the Zune Pass is carp awesome for discovering new music (Pay $15 per month and you can download all the music you want), and the Zune Social, while a bit underdeveloped at the moment, has potential to turn into something really great. Battery life on all of the devices is pretty decent, but not exactly mind blowing. (My 80 GB gets about 20 hours on a single charge playing music only and around 14-15 when bouncing back and forth between music/video/photos) Oh, it also has a built-in FM radio. I never use it myself, but its always nice to have I guess.
However... There are a few downsides. The Zune Marketplace has a Video section, but right now the only things available are various TV Shows and to be honest, I don't even know if the Video store has launched in Canada yet. If I remember correctly, I don't think the Canadian market offers the Zune Pass yet either, which is a real downer since that is one of the best features of Zune. None of the devices save for the 30 GB have an Equalizer, which probably isn't a big deal to most people but for audiophiles like myself, this is an issue to consider. The wireless sharing thing is cool but more or less useless since there aren't enough Zunes out in the wild to really use it, and in Canada where they just got released I'd assume its even more useless.
