RE: Random Thoughts - Alice - Feb. 06, 2008 Ominous Wrote:I wasn't discussing rights, though. I was bringing up intent. To me, it seems like the civil union is the 'secular marriage' - the 'Christmas for non-Christians', if you will. If you get the same benefits as a ceremonious marriage, and can pull off the same shindig, does it really matter to you? I just thought I'd throw in my opinion here as I completely agree with Roan. The whole aspect of the difference between a civil union and an official marriage ceremony is not entirely the point. It's the fact that there has to be a difference in the first place: this is what, I can only assume, gay people find so debilitative and so discouraging - the fact that they are not allowed to be a part of the exclusive (because that is what it is) club of married couples. Ominous Wrote:If you get the same benefits as a ceremonious marriage, and can pull off the same shindig, does it really matter to you? I'm not gay but I can probably speak for a large number of gay people when I say the answer is yes. Not only do partners bound in a civil union NOT have the same rights as a married couple, it's the principle that matters the most here. Gay people are being offered an alternative. I believe that's what homosexuals find so detrimental - they want to be treated as equals. RE: Random Thoughts - Roan - Feb. 06, 2008 Alice Wrote:Ominous Wrote:I wasn't discussing rights, though. RE: Random Thoughts - bugturtles - Feb. 11, 2008 So when I get my permit and license, I might get an old BMW or AE86. I forget which BMW model it was, but my uncle, being the BMW enthusiast that he is, suggested an old one as it was "the most maneuverable" compared to all the other cheaper models. (if you need a scale on old, it is slightly more box shaped) Also, my dad said an 86 was good, as there were a lot used in his day in the Philippines. RE: Random Thoughts - G - Feb. 11, 2008 I might join the Marines if I don't get into the college I want to get into... They're "postponing" their decision right now so I bet it's another way to say no. RE: Random Thoughts - Roan - Feb. 11, 2008 In the navyyyy there's no need to feel down RE: Random Thoughts - G - Feb. 11, 2008 I'll see how it goes. If I wait too long which it I have to if I want to know then they just carp me up for the other colleges. And I have to fill out that FAFSA thing too, but in order to do that, I need to get in a college first. RE: Random Thoughts - Roan - Feb. 11, 2008 Jesus christ I am bored.
