Ugh, that is horrible. I really do not understand how people can can have such zeal to save money that they would crush someones body in pursuit of their frivolous objective (in comparison to the mans life, at the very least). Sickening.

Seriously it seems like for as long as I can remember someone has died on Black Friday by being trampled. Why is this particular occurrence such a sensation?
I mean yeah its terrible that it happened, but its not the first time and it certainly won't be the last.

Excellent summarization.
The issue here is that mob mindset is very different than individual mindset. I imagine it's fairly unlikely any individual in that press considered sales more important than someone's actual life. Where it gets complicated is the social gestalt that occurs in times of panic and stress. It's very similar, neurologically, to what occurs in a herd of prey animals when a predator is detected. It's essentially a modern extension of the limbic brain's drive to push forward through the crowd and get to the front. The reversal is that in this situation, the drive is to be the first to get TO something, instead of the first to get AWAY. What starts as a man or woman leaving home early to save a few bucks on something quickly becomes a pack of thirsty hyenas fighting for the waterhole in the Savannah.
