RE: Make your suggestions! - Spin-Sonic - Dec. 07, 2011 So I have been looking around this forum lately since I post a bit more when I can and I see that VERY little progress is being made. In the advanced forum, there is so much talk but no action. For example, the top tier parts from ages ago are still there even though they have been outclassed and before anyone says, "well we have discussed this and changes are being made", i read that section already and nothing is being done. Hazel did however summarize what should be removed and added so that is a start but that should have been done long ago and no this is not a shot at Kei or anything I am just saying that a lot of these things were obvious a long time ago. I suggest that a new beyblade video section should be made. Something along the lines of Competitive Combo Videos ONLY. The Beyblade Video section is very unsatisfying and does not cover what really matter: results. The Beyblade Video Testing section is highly inactive and when it is active, people are suggesting bad combos against other bad combos and that is not productive or useful.. I would gladly love to help create and contribute to this newly proposed thread very often. I just really think the competitive scene needs a revamp because nothing is changing yet there are so many new options and possibilities... RE: Make your suggestions! - Kai-V - Dec. 07, 2011 You have not even made any requests in that Beyblade Video Testing topic as far as I know, how are we supposed to ask people to only ask about competitive combinations when they might just be curious about one customization. What was obvious a long time ago ? Your dear friend was one of those advocating that skill mattered a lot, so there is almost nothing "obvious" in Beyblade. So, to address your first sentence, I just recently started posting after seeing the sharp decline in competitive activity and changes in the metagame. I would usually stay passive but after getting more parts and seeing what certain things can do, I feel that changes should have been made a long time ago. As for the obvious things, I was referring to the changes in the tier list. I mean, after seeing something dominate for a while over things that have been accepted in the past, it would probably be in everyone's best interest to hve the list altered to fit a more current and growing time. And yes, Bluezee did and still does advocate that skill matters a lot which is why I had him make that video, also upon others' request, to show that certain things and general thoughts tend to be VERY wrong and a few ideas and concepts should be changed. So as you say there is almost nothing obvious, the changes I listed are the ones that stand out from the "almost nothing" group. RE: Make your suggestions! - Arupaeo - Dec. 07, 2011 What sharp decline in competitive activity are you referring to? There are more tournaments today than ever, with new communities getting ramped up and existing communities continuing to hold tournaments on a regular basis. We are actually seeing a steady growth in competitive activity. We are actually seeing a steady growth in competitive activity. Perhaps I worded that incorrectly. What I mean to say is, there is a sharp decline in competitive contributions. Combos are not being made or introduced, very little useful and/or accurate testing being done, and nothing seems to be resolving that problem. I hope that makes more sense now. We are actually seeing a steady growth in competitive activity. It does, thanks. I think that part of the issue is that there are so many new blades being released with new and interesting parts that many of our regular testers are struggling just to keep up with basic tests. (I know I am) This past spring and summer it seemed like there were fewer releases of note, and so people had both the desire and the opportunity to go beyond the basics and really start probing and exploring the limits of the existing competitive parts. Based on the published release schedule and the number of gimmicky parts that need to be fully explored, I'm not sure that I would expect to see this trend changing in the near future. The community is made up of individuals, and the effect you are describing is the sum of all of their individual decisions. Maybe if a few people get that ball rolling again, more people would be inclined to follow suit. RE: Make your suggestions! - Spin-Sonic - Dec. 07, 2011 I see. Thank you for explaining that to me. I really appreciate that and I can see the committee made a really good choice adding you to the group. I suppose I can start testing various things and try to see if it helps out somehow to get the ball rolling. RE: Make your suggestions! - Ultra - Dec. 18, 2011 On the members list section would it be possible to have a section for advanced members like there is for moderators and committee members. You know so you can tell easily who they are? RE: Make your suggestions! - th!nk - Dec. 18, 2011 Hm, there is a "Primary User Group" on our profiles, are there really no options relating to that? No, I tried playing with that. Do you mean in RE: Make your suggestions! - Kai-V - Dec. 19, 2011 Hm, yes, we could do that, however Advanced Members are not part of the staff team, so it makes no sense to add them there ... RE: Make your suggestions! - Hazel - Dec. 19, 2011 If it gives them no additional power, I see nothing wrong with it. It's an invisible label no one can see anyway. RE: Make your suggestions! - Kai-V - Dec. 19, 2011 It is absolutely and fundamentally wrong to show groups like Advanced Members when clicking on a link to "Show Forum Team". I do not think it even requires knowledge of the forum jargon to recognise that. RE: Make your suggestions! - Hazel - Dec. 19, 2011 Can you not change the wording to something less ambiguous? RE: Make your suggestions! - Shabalabadoo - Dec. 20, 2011 I've read your guys' opinions on the YouTube channel, but I'd like to say my opinion about what I think would be a great idea. First, and something that's very important, I want to say that I found out about the WBO through YouTube. I'm positive there's hundreds of others that have found the WBO through YouTube. Not to be arrogant, but if there's someone who ended up becoming an Advanced member because he saw the WBO's YouTube videos, it's an important aspect to look into more. Second, I want to say that all the other websites I go to I found out about through YouTube. My favourite Zelda website, Zelda Dungeon, does fantastic YouTube videos. They're not fantastic because of super flashy videos, but because they have consistent and interesting videos. Another YouTube Channel I go to (And like, 10000000000 other people) is Machinima and Machinima Respawn. They have weekly series, stuff like that. So, what I think the WBO could do is basically the same as those. Here's some things that I think could be done and would be effective, from my viewer standpoint: - Advertise contests. To prevent people from signing up just to enter the contest, a 10 or 20 post minimum would have to be required in order to enter the contest. - Tournament updates. This could be a once every two week list of upcoming tournaments, and recaps of what happened in past tournaments. I think it'd be good to recap because it's obviously a challenge to do full videos for tournaments, as is obvious by the current lack of tournament videos. A clip here and there is all that's needed? - New releases. General info when we near the release date. - BeyWiki Videos. I think a monthly or bi-monthly video would be cool, and would also maintain viewers. A one person show is a recipe for disaster. I think the best thing would be to have one person for each of those (so 4 people total) videos; it'll keep it simpler for any given person. Although this may sound really dumb or "Then why did you even say this in the first place", I am not capable at all of doing videos. Sorry for that. I mostly want to get the idea out. Kinda a "Random Thought, Give Me Your Thought! #2". RE: Make your suggestions! - Arupaeo - Dec. 20, 2011 It's a good thought Shab. Now, we can include videos that other people are posting and put them on our channel, right? I'm a YouTube consumer but not a video maker, so I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. Folks in MD take and post videos for instance, so could we include those on our channel? RE: Make your suggestions! - Raigeko13 - Dec. 20, 2011 I like that idea, a lot Shab! On the BeyWiki thing, maybe weekly updates and stuff? RE: Make your suggestions! - Kai-V - Dec. 20, 2011 I think there is a reason why we are unable to make more constant videos, and there is definitely a reason we do not accept just any person's videos on Beyblade Channel, in referrence to what you wrote, Arupaeo. Still, I suppose we could try ... In theory I am working on a Beyblade Lesson, but I have been for months, so you know how much time I have. What my original thought was, was to have a person highlight the winners, prizes, how many people showed up, and put people's clips (as long as the quality is good) of random or chosen battles from the tournament in the background while the person is speaking. Raigeko13, I think weekly is way too much. There's only so many BeyWiki articles before we would run out. RE: Make your suggestions! - njrk97 - Dec. 20, 2011 i think that wee need to get rid of the links in article that do not lead to other articles since they have not been made it get in the way if your looking like reading a draft about a bey it has a part it says 'see 'partname <-link) you click on it and then it directs you to a page that does not exist mabye we should on have the links if the article exists for that part RE: Make your suggestions! - th!nk - Dec. 20, 2011 That's why those links are a different colour. Plus, when those articles are written, we don't have to find and change anything that links to it. It's standard practice on all wikis. RE: Make your suggestions! - Arupaeo - Dec. 20, 2011 Also, once we have stubs up for everything this will be less of an issue. RE: Make your suggestions! - Janstarblast - Dec. 20, 2011 Well, I have an idea, which might appeal to people having decent Face Collections. And, I am pretty sure I am not the first one to post this... How about a Face Collection Manager option? That will allow members to arrange their faces in whichever sequence they like. I read in WBO Faces Discussion thread that people are really excited when they get a good looking row of Faces. So, they'd be happy to have such a thing! Then again, this thing is not entirely necessary, and its extremely rewarding to get a 'good looking row of Faces' by luck! XD |
