RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Jaems1 - Jan. 13, 2011 (Jan. 12, 2011 10:37 PM)To Wrote: Versus XIII could be available in Japan this year. Square Enix has an event later this month that should clarify these things IIRC. I got this from a japanese "news" site so that seems feasible, thanks To for even clarifying this for me ^^. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Dude - Jan. 13, 2011 To's got some really juicy info. You're like the God of snitches! PSP2, huh? Yet another portable system I won't buy because of a lack of interesting games, I guess. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - |Joe| - Jan. 13, 2011 It looks a lot like the PSPgo to me. It's supposed to have: a touch pad on the back, G3 connection, and the games will be on Memory Sticks. Game Informer has a picture and some information on it in the latest edition. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - To - Jan. 13, 2011 Square Enix recently registered FinalFantasyXIII-2.com. Dun-Dun-Dun (Jan. 13, 2011 12:30 AM)|Joe| Wrote: It looks a lot like the PSPgo to me. I assume you mean this: Spoiler (Click to View) That's simply a render based on the old leaked devkit. The person who snapped the pictures of the devkit said Sony had already changed it, and that the current one was more in style with the traditional PSP (though, no UMD). RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Dude - Jan. 13, 2011 (Jan. 13, 2011 10:06 AM)To Wrote: Square Enix recently registered FinalFantasyXIII-2.com. Dun-Dun-Dun Seriously? That's pathetic. Let's squeeze out the juice out of every game we've got! Shouldn't they spend their time fixing that crappy MMO they made? Furthermore, seeing how Final Fantasy X-2 turned out, I am not looking foward to that one... (Besides, what is there to talk about, after XIII? Seemed like a somewhat fitting ending...) Oh and that pic you posted, To, while very interesting is...uh...kinda big. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - |Joe| - Jan. 13, 2011 Yes To I did mean that, but would you mind putting it in a spoiler or sizing it down? As Dude said it is very big..... RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Red Mockingbird - Jan. 13, 2011 I'm not even sure why they're planning XIII-2 when they haven't finished Versus XIII <-- I'm sure fans are anticipating this rather than XIII-2. I am of course referring to the japanese release. Besides, they could also be writing the story for XIII-2 but not develop it yet, considering that the development team are (most likely) focusing on Versus Xiii RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Moss-Da-Boss - Jan. 13, 2011 I really think I'm obsessing over nothing but I've been completely driven insane by this how do you get stabbed through your helmet when your being assasinated in Halo I mean I would hope that the Helmet was made of tougher stuff. Its not like its a special knife anyway, I understand why you can be killed by the energy sword but by just a common knife O__0. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Red Mockingbird - Jan. 13, 2011 (Jan. 13, 2011 8:28 PM)JÆMS Wrote:(Jan. 13, 2011 7:07 PM)ZE12O Wrote: I'm not even sure why they're planning XIII-2 when they haven't finished Versus XIII <-- I'm sure fans are anticipating this rather than XIII-2. If I would know anything? Well it seems you don't have enough credible source to say if they have or haven't finished it. So I will go back to my original post and say why are they working on a new project if they haven't finished Versus XIII. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Jaems1 - Jan. 13, 2011 (Jan. 13, 2011 9:28 PM)ZE12O Wrote: So I will go back to my original post and say why are they working on a new project if they haven't finished Versus XIII. I'm unsure of how big Square Enix is compared to Blizzard Ent. but during the development of Starcraft 2 they had also announced that they would work on Diablo 3 as well (excluding WoW: Cataclysm (I'm sure they have their own team on that)); thus splitting the project team and possibly hiring more. I'd assume that they do this so we get one moderately slower but the other moderately faster, via beginning the story write up/developing the early graphics for the game (not to mention voice acting, etc.) Because some people could no longer be needed for that specific part of Versus Xiii's project but instead they can still be useful in Xiii-2. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - ©oke - Jan. 13, 2011 Have you seen the trailer of Kingdom Hearts ReCoded? It looks epic RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Dude - Jan. 13, 2011 By the way, you guys know that Square Enix apologized ¸for Final Fantasy XIV? http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/13/square-enix-say-sorry-for-final-fantasy-xiv-announce-staff-changes-and-free-trial-extension/ That's pretty sad. I pity the fool who actually paid real life money for that obviously crappy MMO. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Red Mockingbird - Jan. 13, 2011 I honestly had such high hopes for it. But after seeing some actual gameplay footage i took it off of pre order instantly lol. And still, major retailers are offering it at £39.99 for the PS3/XB360 port for pre ordering RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - To - Jan. 13, 2011 Sorry about that image. I had just googled a random one, and I changed tabs, so that the resolution I saw of it was one zoomed out extensively. As for Final Fantasy XIII-2 (which could be domain squatting for Square Enix for all we know, they recently filled trademark papers for a Final Fantasy Zero), it makes sense. They spent millions making the assets and engine for XIII, and it would be a waste to do all that for one or two games (I'm not actually sure if Versus is using Crystal Tools). The style doesn't necessairly flow with any of their other franchises, so unless they want to launch a new console IP, it would go to waste. As for who's making this game, it should be noted that Square Enix has a multitude of internal development teams. The team who developed Final Fantasy XII, is not the one who developed XIII. Nomura's Kingdom Hearts team is the one currently developing Versus. They didn't do the full brunt of the XIII work, they reportedly helped, but Nomura's team wasn't the one responsible for what XIII is. It's not an issue of staff, it's just management. Agito XIII was announced as a PSP exclusive 3 years ago, and we've seen very little of it since then. A PSP game, no matter staff size, shouldn't take that long for a world class developer. (Jan. 13, 2011 11:02 PM)ZE12O Wrote: I honestly had such high hopes for it. It's PS3-only due to Microsoft's backend issues. Reportedly, Square Enix has delayed the PS3 version until they can get everything sorted out. Not that I care, since I don't like MMOs. Nothing will beat WoW, i no longer play it but i admit that as a fact, Blizzard just have "higher" standards. That's even sadder, because the gameplay of XIII was carp That being said, it did have a lot of nice elements. Music's great (Of course), voice acting decent and the graphics are cool. But the gameplay was just bad and that's what I don't get. If there's one thing Final Fantasy X did right, it's the combat system. That was awesome, so why did they decide to change radically with FF XII? RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - To - Jan. 14, 2011 (Jan. 14, 2011 12:11 AM)Dude Wrote:(Jan. 13, 2011 11:18 PM)To Wrote: As for Final Fantasy XIII-2 (which could be domain squatting for Square Enix for all we know, they recently filled trademark papers for a Final Fantasy Zero), it makes sense. To make an engine from the ground up on the HD platforms isn't cheap, and I guarantee it's the reason why XIII took so long. As for why X and XII as so different, once again, different teams. X's team more or less is the team behind XIII. XII's team was headed by Matsuno, the man behind Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy Tactics. It was Square Enix giving him a chance with the mothership. After that game was rumored to have gone well over budget, and missed a few dates, Matsuno has more or less become non-existant within Square Enix. His most prolific work in recent is the Tactics Ogre remake for PSP that's out in North America this year. I don't think we'll be seeing that team make an HD game, or have an Ivalice game appear on the HD platforms. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Roan - Jan. 14, 2011 I actually thought the battle system in FFXIII was the best the series has had SINCE FFX. Just saying. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Dude - Jan. 14, 2011 I sure didn't. I find it mindlessly boring. Just get Lightning to attack over and over again (Which is basically just masing the X button (Or something else, depending on the console used)) Hope heals meanwhile and that nice black guy (Whose name I've forgotten. Sazh, I think?) buffs everyone. That results in absolute invincibility. What's interesting? Then again, just opinion. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - |Joe| - Jan. 14, 2011 I personally thought it was a nice change from the turn based style of fighting. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Roan - Jan. 14, 2011 (Jan. 14, 2011 6:52 PM)Dude Wrote: I sure didn't. I find it mindlessly boring. Clearly you were playing the game wrong if that's all you ever managed to accomplish with the battle system. It's actually very strategic, and typically requires switching between multiple battle forms (I forget what they called them in the game). The battle system really shines during boss fights where you have to utilize a wide range of abilities and spells. RE: Gaming Random Thoughts - Dude - Jan. 14, 2011 Yeah, the Paradigms(?) were cool, but it really comes down to two or three sets of Paradigms to beat the whole game: Offensive, neutral and defensive. Use the neutral to stagger the enemy, once staggered go offensive and if health gets low, just go defensive. It's a pretty easy formula that allowed me to beat the game pretty quickly... I guarantee you they aren't as easy as that.
