In no particular order,
Death Note, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Gundam SEED /Destiny, Neon Genesis Evangelion, .hack//SIGN, and as an honourable mention, I really enjoyed Beyblade G-Revolution, especially in the latter half.
However, if anime movies count, 5 Centimeters Per Second undoubtedly tops my list (as both my favourite anime and movie in general).

I knew that much, I saw the game previously while on that site and thought (after looking a little into the anime) that they could be related. I've only just noticed the big fat Animax logo on the games site, so I guess I was probably right.

It's by Gainax - it's pretty insane (not on the same level as Excel Saga though) but does actually have a decent plot once you understand what's going on. And it has lots of guitars, scooters, robots and eyebrows. It's only 6 episodes long so you really have no excuse not to watch it.

The manga is only two volumes but has nothing to do with the anime and honestly wasn't that good.

The manga came later and is really pales compared to the anime. Plus it's carp hard to understand what the hell is going on. The anime is much better. Plus it has interesting animation and an awesome soundtrack.
