Is there a problem with not liking voice chat? From my experience on Xbox Live, it has done little to add to the experience. Although, if there was some strategy in a particular online game, I'm sure it would be awesome (eg. World of Warcraft). RE: gaming random thoughts - Bey Brad - Dec. 27, 2007 So give me the option to turn it off if I don't want it. If I do, give me the option to turn it on. I'm sick of Nintendo TELLING PEOPLE what's good for them. RE: gaming random thoughts - Kei - Dec. 27, 2007 Tamer Brad Wrote:So give me the option to turn it off if I don't want it. That would be a good idea. It would please both sides equally, too bad their too lazy to make one. According to Reggie though, it is possible. And they do have the DS Microphone, so they must have some sort of an interest in it. RE: gaming random thoughts - Roan - Dec. 27, 2007 Tamer Brad Wrote:So give me the option to turn it off if I don't want it. Exactly. The Wii has parental controls. If Nintendo doesn't want children being solicited online, make different user profiles on the system and give parents the option of restricting online play. They need to quit forcing all of these safety rules on people who would otherwise be perfectly capable of taking care of themselves online. Nintendo's stance on online for both Wii and DS is a carp joke at best. Friend codes and the like are just unnecessary and make the experience absolutely excruciating for everyone who isn't under the age of 10. Speaking of friend codes, the safety measure isn't even working. Google it once and see how many sites you find for friend code exchanges. RE: gaming random thoughts - Kei - Dec. 27, 2007 Roan Wrote:Tamer Brad Wrote:So give me the option to turn it off if I don't want it. Honestly, I agree with you. Even though I don't find FC's that annoying, I could do without them. At least EA hasn't started using them in Madden and other games. It's such a stupid system and only complicates things. RE: gaming random thoughts - mdhvdukshsj - Dec. 27, 2007 i never talk to people who aren't my friends on xbox live ...but thats my choice. so fu nintendo RE: gaming random thoughts - Tototototototo - Dec. 28, 2007 What's up with all of the Nintendo hate here? I mean, sure, the online modes could be tweaked to allow voice chat and get rid of Friend Codes. But isn't it obvious that the system isn't mainly geared towards serious gamers? Most of the people playing the Wii are probably around ten years old anyways. It seems a little overboard to say that the company is telling you what to do with the system just because Nintendo feels the need to protect its demographic from content their parents wouldn't want them to hear. Also, how many parents actually check for Parental Controls on their child's toys? Everyone I know that owns a PS2 just sets "0000" for the code, and they're done with it. A game system is easy to set up. I've been able to do it since I was three, and I'd bet most kiddies do it themselves anyways. Plus, the parent usually isn't even in the same room when their kid is playing the game. You guys need to chill a little bit--it's only a toy designed for fun. RE: gaming random thoughts - Ominous - Dec. 28, 2007 From a business perspective, Nintendo is very savvy in how they are running things. However, I imagine our people here feel jaded because they are in a highly concentrated demographic, whereas Nintendo is trying to do a kind of 'diluted catch-all'. And yes, I think it's sad that 3rd party game developers generally aren't providing the Wii with anything good. But really, hasn't this always been the case? Looking back at my GCN and N64 collection, it's pretty much either Nintendo or Rare (with maybe one or two EA games thrown into the mix) that are in the roster. RE: gaming random thoughts - Roan - Dec. 28, 2007 Mr. Toto Wrote:But isn't it obvious that the system isn't mainly geared towards serious gamers? Most of the people playing the Wii are probably around ten years old anyways. This is the exact reason most of us are pissed off at Nintendo. When the Wii was announced we were promised our fair share of, for lack of a better term, "hardcore" games that we traditionally associate with Nintendo and on a regular basis. So far their hardcore release schedule has been abysmal, with one or two AAA games coming out every 3-4 months. I feel abandoned by Nintendo. They found this crazy carp new market that will buy any of the carp they publish and have completely turned their backs on the gamers that kept them alive through the end of the N64 and all the way through the Gamecube's life. Now it just feels like they don't give two carp about us anymore and it's frustrating because Nintendo is one of my favorite publishers of all time. They make really amazing games and it frustrates me beyond belief to see them taking the route they did with the Wii. From a business perspective they couldn't have made a better choice. Look at them, they're raking in the cash. But like I said earlier, I just feel left behind by the company and so my like for them has considerably dropped. :\ Mr. Toto Wrote:You guys need to chill a little bit--it's only a toy designed for fun. This is another problem with the Wii -- it's being treated as a toy for children. I've grown up with videogames, and as ridiculous as it may sound, I expect the industry to grow with me and provide me with games that satisfy my more mature desires. I like intricate story lines and progressive control schemes. I like first person shooters with amazingly hardcore online play. In my eyes, video game consoles are not toys. They're a feasible source of entertainment that has long since been denied it's rightful place in mainstream media. Do you consider your DVD player a toy? I don't at all and I think (most; Wii excluded) consoles are too high-tech to be called toys. RE: gaming random thoughts - Guitar_Legend - Dec. 29, 2007 I'm really happy I didn't buy a Wii. The concept made me unsure, but I really wasn't expecting so many half-assed games to come out. I'm pretty content to have a friend buy it, so I can play the few good games that are released. Kind of funny, I still have not touched a Wii. EVER. RE: gaming random thoughts - Roan - Dec. 29, 2007 Guitar_Legend Wrote:Kind of funny, I still have not touched a Wii. EVER. You aren't missing much of anything good. Well, save for Mario Galaxy. But other than that, you made a wise choice. lol RE: gaming random thoughts - Guitar_Legend - Dec. 29, 2007 There are honestly only 3 games I'd like to try, and those are pretty obvious. Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, and SSBB, once it's released. But I need to find a friend with a Wii first. =( RE: gaming random thoughts - bugturtles - Dec. 29, 2007 Finished Halo 3 on Normal today. I am sad, but touched at the ending. I heard it wasn't that great, but I still want to try it. I'm a pretty big fan of Zelda anyhow. RE: gaming random thoughts - Roan - Dec. 29, 2007 I loved TP. :\ RE: gaming random thoughts - Ominous - Dec. 30, 2007 I liked Metroid Prime 3 RE: gaming random thoughts - Roan - Dec. 30, 2007 Ominous Wrote:I liked Metroid Prime 3 .... lol RE: gaming random thoughts - PRINCEcharming - Dec. 30, 2007 Silver Kane Wrote:Zelda: TP sucks, tbhYou have no soul. TP was arguably the best Zelda game yet made, but for some reason people want to overlook the fact that Nintendo seem to have gone so far as to listen to the fans (I know I saw plenty of things in there that I had been spamming the official Nintendo forums about for years) this time around, and even advanced the Zelda formula significantly, because people don't want it to ruin their OoT nostalgia-wanking sessions. RE: gaming random thoughts - Bey Brad - Dec. 30, 2007 PRINCEcharming Wrote:Silver Kane Wrote:Zelda: TP sucks, tbhYou have no soul. Actually the problem was it was pretty much exactly like OoT except easier. TP did suck. So does Phantom Hourglass. RE: gaming random thoughts - Crimson - Dec. 30, 2007 Yesterday my package from Play-Asia arrived (Dragon Quest IV DS and Final Fantasy IV DS) I haven't yet tried FF4, since I want to play through Dragon Quest first. I've never played any other Dragon Quest game besides the first one, but I've been enjoying IV so far. Finished Chapter 1 (playing as Ryan, searching for missing children), and I just started Chapter 2 (Princess Arina) + on the topic of Zelda. IMO, A Link to the Past is the best Zelda that has ever been released. RE: gaming random thoughts - Roan - Dec. 30, 2007 http://www.engadget.com/2007/12/30/xbox-live-up-and-running-now-with-no-caveats/ lol. We'll see. I agree though; MS should definitely reimburse those of us who got carp on Live over the holidays. |
