Since nobody here seems to think there's any other media that isn't from Asia, does anyone here read American or English comic books, or even French, Spanish, any comic books at all?
Just finished reading V for Vendetta by Allen Moore (yes, it's also a film
) and I thought it was pretty amazing.

I was going to try to get into Marvel comics after seeing X-men Origins, but I have no idea where to start, there are so many different series to each comic that issue 1 isn't actualy starting the series from the very begining. Any help here?

I think this is one of the reasons that the manga model has proven to be so successful worldwide. Many American comics are owned by corporations rather than artists; so, literally hundreds of artists and continuities exist for one character, and it makes the story rather loose and there is often no single "canon". Whereas most manga are the property of the artist, and therefore there is only one story to follow.
Not trying to turn this into a manga thread, just throwing this out there.

Um, only thing I can think of is the Beano. I loved that when I was little. XD Oh and I read the comics in newspapers. *fails*

I occasionally read graphic novels such as the said V for Vendetta and Watchmen, but I would hardly say I am an enthusiast. Regular comics are stuff I used to read a bit when I was like seven to nine.
If I remember correctly I used to like:
1)Superman
2)Batman
3) The Phantom
Occasionally I would read Spiderman but that was pretty rare.

In all honesty, it's a judgment call.
With comics like Hellboy, or anything that's on Dark Horse, there's a fixed "This is the first book" kind of deal since it's a relatively new comic.
But yeah, with things like X-Men and Spiderman, they've just been around so long they have to continually rehash. I wouldn't bother starting from the beginning of the story, I'd start at the beginning of a certain arc, like Ultimate X-Men.
For you though, X-Men I'd say Uncanny X-Men. Picks up after the 3rd film with elements of origins as well, and deals with the rebirth of the Phoenix force clone.
Deadpool, go for Deadpool Volume 1 (nice and easy
)Spidey, Amazing Spider-Man: Volume 1: Coming Home has the best artwork, and great characterization.
I'm insanely picky with what I'll read, if the artwork isn't so amazing I think my brain might melt, or the storytelling isn't absolutely breathtaking, it'll be either in the bin, or back to the shop before I've got past the 2nd chapter
Khei: Graphic novels are just comics that were released as single issues, sown together in to a volume for convenience, so you're still just reading comics.

Also, I am not sure if it is fair to say that comics and graphic novels are exactly the same thing......

I don't read comics and can't find them anyway. I don't like they're style and often get bored when reading them. There is too much speech on one page. While I find Manga to have a nice balance of pictures and text.

I think it's more that there's a difference in comics and comic books... Graphic novels are just bound comic books, most even have the original cover art used to break it in to chapters...

Haha, and I was moreso referring to who was taking over after Battle for the Cowl.
I'm pretty sure it's carp and Damian as Bats and Robin, but that's what everyone else thinks, too. Haha

No... Batman definitely dies in Final Crisis. Those beams freakin obliterated him, you saw Superman holding his charred corpse! And they definitely buried him, if not then I'd be MAJORLY worried as to who's in the grave.
Green Lantern and The Flash are the only people who show up to his unmarked grave, buried next to his parents... Poor sod.
Not too fussed about battle of the cowl, but I'll miss Bruce Wayne...

Its really wierd, because today I was just thinking about seeing if I could get my hands on any english Beyblade comics.
I have been reading Green Lantern and Iron Man comics for years! I have a bunch of other random ones too. I just go through 'em every so often, but I'm not religious about getting new ones.
A comic series/graphic novel series I'd reccommend is the Runaways by Marvel. One of my all time favorite graphic novel series.

I read all Jhonen Vasquez (Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Squee, I Feel Sick, Invader Zim, etc) and Roman Dirge Comics (Lenore). I also loooooooveeee Jamie Smart's Space Raoul, the Amory Wars, and The Umbrella Academy.

My brother reads manga and DC comics. (Stuff like Superman, Marvel like.) He got me into DC a little i guess, not as much as i like manga but i kind of like DC. but he also had this thing for 5 year olds which i read, it's called Tiny Titans. It's about Teen Titans as kids and they go to school and are really short. Favourite comics!

Still have my mint issue 1. Didn't realize Zim was ever made in to a proper comic, could have sworn it was just the cartoon

You're making the same generalizations, just about a different group of media. There are good manga and bad manga and good comic books and bad comic books, so stop with this carp.

I really want to start reading The Amazing Spiderman line. This series is what I grew up with, none of this techno-Spidey carp.
However there is like 500+ issues and the older ones are rare. So getting a complete collection of issues would be expensive and would take a long time, lmao.
