This is everything wrong with not just popular music, but music in general. Music is an art form and when these companies decide to manufacture a group like this with nothing going for them other than (trashy) sex appeal and make millions in the process, it strips every ounce of artistic integrity from music and takes a giant carp on those groups out there actually applying themselves and trying to make good music.
So yeah. I hope this group tanks and every big wig executive involved loses millions of dollars in their investment.

I don't really understand why they are so processed either, they all can sing..
to be fair, this is the pop-rnb genre, and the process is different. You don't really see a group like this formed in highschool (or etc.) and progress from the indie shows to major label gig.
Also roan while your pov is valid, think that there is noting wrong with making music for a specific audience, if people enjoy it than its a good enough reason.
I just love how the show makes the actual "making" of music take a backseat in favour of more nonsensical things.
One of my best friends dated a good friend of mine whose sister is the co-president of production for all of Fox. When the president and my best friend met, during their conversation he asked why Fox put out something like Happy Feet. Her quick, near jaded rebuttal was, "Well, we made $8 million." Do you think the people signing the cheques care for art or taste? Hell, no! At the end of the day, they are accountable to investors and shareholders alike.
But then, who really is to blame? Them for allowing it in the name of good business, or the general populace for dictating what we want to see, and thus defining how the business should react?

It annoys me. Our modern society has grown too used to listening to completely processed sound. I'm all for careful miking and mixing to get a nice sound, but considering changing pitch, timing, and everything else, it's as though it's not the work of the original artiste anymore. Making good studio recordings is an art, but getting someone with very little skill, then performing studio magic to make it into a hit strikes me as rather fake.

It still generates results. Low costs generally spawn high profits.
Also, I find it is very sad when the goal of rappers is to corner the cellular ring tone market. It's all rather pathetic.
yeah, ringtone rap is very sad. Look at Flo Rida, hope he is gone soon.. or Shop Boyz LOL. Still I think the industry is changing, and really it not like its hard to find good music in any genre. The internet is so great for it.
Anyway what I'd like to see is this group simply surpass the PussyCat Dolls ( who except for Nicole that left, can't sing and pretty much all of them look like buckets. not to mention, nobody knows their names?).
They all definately have more talent.
Post processing done in the studio is now unavoidable at big labels, its not often that an artist has full creative control anymore.
Artisits are only human, unlesss their resolve is stone, to resist allure of being to paid to do something they love is dream, and hard to pass up.
Hell nobody mentioned radio payolla, it insures hits are made froms songs they want.
IMO bottom line is people are smart enought to profiting from/off something, even if its unethical, its the consumer that responsible for that need. Sure markets can emerge, but they can also collapse.
