Obviously, I miss out on a lot living in the UK. We're still airing Metal Masters (Even though we sped through Metal Fusion in eight weeks, and aired the last episode 11 weeks ahead of the US), and half the animes you guys get over there will never see light over here.

Atleast you had Metal Fusion aired, unlike us here at Poland @_@

Darn, if Shogun Steel has really come down to this.....it's worse than ever. Atleast the Metal Saga's opening was related to the first Japanese opening of Metal Fight Beyblade. This is, completely outside and ruins everything.
(Jan. 26, 2013  2:37 PM)AppleBlossoms Wrote: [ -> ]Why is everything they do with Beyblade advertising somehow related to an audience of 13-to-15-year-old wannabe-gangsters? I'm pretty sure that it does not relate to a) the show or b) their actual demographic target audience.

Unfortunately I've found it's a stigma to be associated with Beyblade over the age of 14, my friends make fun of my obsession all the time, I honestly don't care either way, but I think the general perception from anime lovers, is that Beyblade is not a "real" anime and it's a little kids toy. That's probably the reason for the young target audience. Just my thoughts though.
Ah, I wasn't complaining about the age of the target audience. I'm well aware that Beyblade is indeed a show aimed at boys aged 8-12, approximately. (Which of course doesn't mean we can't enjoy it either way)

I was just wondering why they associated these people with a pre-teen or early teen phase of 'wow so gangsta yo man I'm an adult only cooler' that usually kicks in at like 14-16, if I'm not mistaken.
Generally the show aims to teach friendship and honest passion, rather than this sort of coolness... So the advertising is rather contradictory.

I partly agree on the stigma part though, but I don't think it's necessarily about the Beyblade franchise. At least in my experience, it's mostly the Metal Saga. While on conventions mostly everyone fondly recalls the original Beyblade, they will not accept someone who actually enjoys the Metal Saga.
I've had it many times that people literally just walked up to me to tell me my favourite show sucks. Which is completely unnecessary, because I will not stop liking it and if they don't like it then it's their problem and honestly none of my business.
People can be really stupid over this.
I was watching the English dub version of Gingka versus Damian last night before I went to bed, and I noticed something that really ticked me off.

...So, Damian starts to explain how the Arrangement System works and how the scientists at HD Academy created Kerbecs specially for him and all that stuff. Then Gingka replies with, "Power isn't something that can be given to you by someone else". ... Isn't the ideal that real power comes from your friends what he preached in Metal Fusion? I understand that he was referring to the "unfairness" of the Arrangement System, but... Way to be a contradictory hypocrite, Gingka. -_-

- Wow, that sucks. Everyone I know doesn't even know what "Beyblade" is. In fact, someone thought that I was talking about a show with knife fighting once, because of the 'blade' part of the title. XD It's even worse when the topic of BeyWheelz comes up. Everyone dies of laughter when I say I also enjoy a show about spinning wheels... I mean, maybe it's odd, but it isn't "gangsta" in any way, despite the marketing, and as long as it isn't getting me into trouble, I can enjoy whatever shows/merchandise I want.

Ginga wasn't really referring to the unfairness (ok, that too but that wasn't the main point)
Beyblading is about gaining your power together with your friends. Yes, he did get his power from his friends. But that was because of what they've experienced together and what he learned by battling them.
In the manga he explicitly tells Damian that you can't become strong on your own (and I guess he's said something like that at one point in the anime, too, because Ginga says things like that xD)
And it's known that the HD kids didn't just lay in their arrange system all day and waited to become stronger. It can be seen that they actually train and I doubt that Jack and Damian make an exception here.

Ah, I see! Thanks. Yeah, I haven't read much of the manga. Bits and pieces, but not too much.

...But, what confuses me is how Jack and Damian would have trained before the battles with Team Excalibur. It seems that Damian was given Kerbecs right before he was sent out to find Ryuuga, and Jack was given Befall right before his battle with Klaus. What Beys would they have used? Also, when Jack was talking to Tsubasa and Madoka, he said that the Arrangement System awakened his passion for the arts. Since art is as important as Beyblade is to him, this leads me to believe he didn't start Beyblade until he joined HD Academy or something. ...I dunno. The whole thing is kinda confusing. There's always the perplexing question of who battled in place of StarBreaker before the match with Excalibur if Jack and Damian weren't present. Did Zeo and Ziggurat battle or something? I really can't imagine Ziggy battling in the tournament, seeing as he only views Beyblade as a piece of the puzzle for his Spiral Force and viewed the tournament as a trivial experiment.

Damian has probably used that HD Proto thingy at one point.. I don't know how to call it but it's that Bey Ziggy gave him in the flashback and it's the same that the other HD Bladers use.
It's not official but I imagine them to just have used other more or less fitting Beys... I doubt they cared much about certain constellations and just used whatever Beys they were given.
I think Jack did beybattle. He was America's worst blader but he must have battled or else he wouldn't have been on that list.
I doubt he wasn't into art before... But the Arrange System made him see art in a different way (just like... a drug or something like that?)
Zeo did battle, that's what we know. Maybe they just used some other HD-kids as subs or so...
It's also possible that Zeo fought all on his own because Ziggy didn't want to waste Jack and Damian for simple tasks as that?
I wonder if Tyson and Kai's Children use Dragoon Metal Fantom and Dranzer Metal Flame considering Tyson and Kai have their MS Beyblades at the end of the Manga and their kids seem to have Dragoon and Dranzer as well

Zeo would have to fight twice in a row in that case, and win both times. And he didn't get arranged until before the finals. Though he may have used Flame Byxis, which is pretty strong on its own, I doubt he could have beaten the Canadian/Mexican/Australian/whatever Beyblade teams all by himself. Masamune even said he was weak.

Alright, enough dissing Zeo, time for my actual theory. I think it's just a plot hole that the directors didn't expect the target audience to see through. IIRC Damian and Jack were not shown in the battle against the Gracies, which might suggest that other generic Bladers were used. However, Selen and the first round Starbreaker threw their matches and let Ian and Zeo decide with an actual battle. But I thought substitute members could not be used unless normal members are unable to compete?

Yes, they do. The two, Makoto and Gou, inheirt both Dragoon and Dranzer. It was shown in the fourteenth volume of the Bakuten Shoot Beyblade Manga as a special chapter near the end of the book. Check it out here!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEKYbEqWu1Q
I just relized that Makoto reminds me of another Makoto, that of which is from "school days".

Yeah i completely know what you mean, but i meant the name and the outward hair syle.
Trust me if their was something i could do to un-watch that anime i would. And for anybody who reads this i will make it clear " School Days is the worst anime i have ever seen! Do not under any sircumstances watch it! And if you have already and are expirencing image flashes of certain things. If anything re-watch clannad, maybe that will get some images out of your head, just dont watch School days!!"

also what do you think is gonna happen with the new Shogun steel anime , other than the news that has already been released?

I honestly think that the Arrangement System symbolizes steroids. Think about it. Like steroids, it draws out a person's strength increasingly, and like steroids, it has dreadful side-effects. (And yeah, I agree about Jack.)

Which reminds me of another Makato, Sawatari Makoto, from Kanon.

Um... it has never been stated that he wasn't in the Arrange System before. He definitely was before the battle against the Brazilian team...
And I doubt the producers didn't think about it... excuse me but.. how dumb do you think they are? There are so many hidden things... Just rewatch it before stating things like that because people might believe you...

No problem Tutu, yeah the song isn't great and neither did their choice of logo
Oh god, that is awful. I would have preferred the Metal Fusion/Masters/Fury theme, with only those words changed ...

Eh, I personally prefer that (Although it is pretty awful) to the Metal fusion/masters/fury theme tune, but that logo... Yuck.
Maybe it's just because I dislike rapping .. Especially the Hasbro Beyblade ads.

Really? I've gotta say, I do agree with you. Personally, I dislike all the Beyblade theme songs, from Metal Fusion to Shogun Steel, except the original english dub version of the Bakuten Shoot Beyblade series. Something about the "rockish" feel gets me pumped. These... No, hah.
That theme song was just about the worst thing I've heard so far.

He had not been arranged before the Brazilian team. Remember, Zeo said he wanted to win using "his own power", but changed his mind after he lost to Ryuga. The next episode when he fought Masamune and Gingka, he was aggressive and angry, and much more powerful from the effects of the Arrange System.
