For Initial contribution- TIP - Don't keep Gold Fishes In Bowls, they will most likely die. Each Goldfish deserves atleast 30 gallons+ 10 gallons Of water for another gold Fish.

Aren't they supposed to be kept In a jar?

Aren't they supposed to be kept In a jar?

Nopes. Even the smallest fish has some requirements. I would say get a 20 gallon tank, for any beginners, though I have 280 gallon tank with cathfishes.

 That's not the case. An Aquarium is an artificial ecosystem, you need to maintain it in accordance to the species you keep, and a good amount of denitrifying Bacteria to keep the Ammonia and nitrate down. The Nitrogen Cycle it's called, another thing to keep in mind is adequate space in order to prevent any internal damage to fish when organs grow but body doesn't, and Enough Gaseous exchange
Getting a New 20 gallon, might make a Beginner Tutorial on how to start a tank. Of you ask If costed me ₹1200 or 17 USD. Cheaper than Petco's Dollar per gallon.
