I don't think you are forced to apply stickers.

Your not forced to put the stikers. I my friend who to a tournament didn't have stickers and he was FINE. Plus your not even forced to get a bey if the tourney page says that they can offer you one
A lot of tournament bladers don't put stickers on since when they peel off from impact they can create drag and reduce stamina
