I know it sounds dumb but I just got the L and R string launcher, and I don't know if I should let go Of the string when I pull it, or hold on to it. Also what are things that can break your string launcher.

To use a string launcher, you pull the handle and as soon as you feel the string stop, let go. You use your thumb and 2 forefingers and a light grip on the handle so you will let go more naturally.
Don't put your middle and index finger on the protrusions of the string handle, you will find it hard to let go when the string is at its max.
I use a "pinch" to hold the "head" and it naturally slips out when it hits the max length
