What if I want my opponent to see that I am starting with a defense type in an attempt to goad him into picking a stamina type. That way I can switch to an attack type and be ahead by one point.

Most bladers use the tops that they are going into the tournament with during freeplay, just make sure that your opponent knows about only one bey ore some red herring combos.
