Zomg not another pretentious art project from Roan!

Yeeeah... It is.

I'm sort of re-hashing old material with this one, but if you weren't a fan of Dissonance given it's decidedly artsy and sky-high concept, I think you'll like this much more.

There are only four songs on the whole disc, all of which are relatively short (2-3 minutes or less). Also for this time around, each song has a more solid musical element to it rather than just being atmospheric ambiance.

I decided to go down the techno/trance route with this album and the entire piece is supposed to pain a picture of an alien abduction. I know, I'm carp up in the head, etc. etc.

Track List:

1. ENCOUNTER
2. CRASH
3. [ABDUCTION]
4. PROCESSED.05

Anyway, you can download the whole package here (It's only about 12 MBs -- should be a quick download):

There's no art accompanying this release outside of the album cover I included. A lot of the feedback I got from Dissonance suggested that it wasn't very accessible due to lengthy tracks and whatnot. So this is obviously a simpler approach.

Finally, let me know what you think should you decide to give it a try! Thanks!
hey dude
B) its cool. the composition isn't conventional/or really musical so that stood out. progressive really, at times reminded me from music in half-life. but haha it almost becomes the opposite of dissonance. as it was too short imo.

also don't get too offended by people not replying, the board is really just not as active nor do people seem like they want to really discuss and debate.

btw track 2 "crash" in the zip extracts but has .m4a extension...no play. aye. and imho wouldn't the crash come before the encounter? title wise anyway, since I haven't heard it. :-3

what software are you using to produce these projects?

You should be able to play .m4a in WMP or iTunes. It plays in Zune as well, but I'm betting you won't want to download that. lol

Also, considering your question on the order, the Encounter causes the Crash. Since you haven't heard Crash yet, I think once you do it will make more sense because it's about a car crashing, not a spaceship. Wink

I used a combination of Garageband and Soundtrack on Mac OS X to make all of these. Most of the work was done in Soundtrack though.
actually, i've been really into techno lately (in before eurofaq lol)
so i will check this out once i have some time Smile
ok so i used vlc to play it. its cool too
though maybe louder skidding sounds as notes. again this reminded me of HL lol
seen

silver kane it takes about as much time to download as checking beywikis new posts.

Ed: Snap Son 300 posts.
This is just a quick message to let you know I plan on listening to these, Roan! I will do so this evening and let you know what I think. *thumbs up*
just listened to them

abduction and processed.02 weren't really the type of techno i like, but encounter was nice, too bad it was so short Unhappy

Crash won't play on my computer
ENCOUNTER: Is that loop sampled from something? I swear to God I've heard it before but I can't for the life of me remember where!
You capture the mood extremely well and I find it quite hypnotic, albeit short. I think it could do with being a bit longer so the weight of the synth in the background has more time to sink in, allowing the feeling of the 'encounter' to really come to life.

CRASH: I love this one. The realistic opening proceeds perfectly into rhythm. It's quite raw at first, but I like that. I think, however, that the ending could have just faded out into nothingness instead of the final shattering sound. I find it doesn't work too well, especially when you consider the middle section as the 'crash' and the trance that follows to be stunned silence.

[ABDUCTION]: I love how you have conveyed a sense of floating in and out of consciousness here - there are some subtle touches entangled within that help to portray this. Nice!

PROCESSED.05: As a big fan of David Firth's Locust Toybox (http://www.locusttoybox.co.uk), I found this to be quite reminscent of his music but with much darker undercurrents passing through it; I like the electronic sounds you used and how they have been manipulated.

Overall - very well done! I'm keeping all of these songs on my PC to listen to. Smile
Thanks for the in-depth breakdown Alice, I really appreciate it.

As much as I'd like to take your critiques and put them to good use, I unfortunately am not able to edit these pieces. They were stored on a school computer and I currently do not attend that high school anymore, not to mention the fact that these computers have their hard drives wiped every semester. There's also the total lack of Mac computers in my life, which is a shame, I know.

The fact is that these songs were made previous to Dissonance; therefore I feel they aren't as good and are really just the outline of the concept I was going for. I never got to fully flesh out this project as I had intended to since I was doing this in my free time during school hours, which I'll admit, wasn't as much as I'd liked to have had to spend. lol
