GFX Competition [ROUND ONE VOTING - BLOCK A]

Here are all the entries I received from BLOCK A. The theme was as follows:

Block A: Beyblade - Old School (limited to: plastic generation, V-Force, G-Revolution).

I really like the aesthetic of entry C. Simple and clean but well done.

I also like the use of layers, sections, transitions and colors in entry G.

I think this block had a great turn out!

Entry A: really colorful and fun looking, even if it wasn't the best of quality . Should remove the picture of dragoon in Tyson's hand though, it looks like it doesn't belong and it wasn't really blended. Don't love the text but it's not horrible.

Entry B: Kai Twins?! Just the one Kai would have been sufficient, Dranzer is cutting off the others ones face.

Entry C: I like it a lot. I like the speed excess or whatever ( the part of dragoon), bland can sometimes be best (I usually don't think that, but you defiantly pulled it off here and I like how it differs from the other Tyson/Dragoon sigs). I like the sharpened dragoon. Plus, your the only HMS one, i guess not everyone remember HMS counted since it was from G-revolution .But We all know who it's from though XD (only one user on the site consistently uses that style/filter.) Perhaps should have moved the dragoon bit beast symbol above the text?


Entry D : really fun and colorful. I like it.

Entry E : Mediocre. That's it. Also is that a UFO above the text 0_o?

Entry F: well done. Every looks fitting, besides the text. . That isn't the right font for the word, the Rs and E looks weird. Also either make it bigger or remove it, it just doesn't look great like that. I Would say the animated Ray doesn't match the non animated Driger S, but I know that the best render that could could be used there.

Entry G: Well done, but mediocre. I like the color and background, but I would have liked if it was more unique, you had to know a lot of people would use Kai/Dranzer and Tyson/Dragoon. Would have like english writing also if you could have pulled it off like you pulled off the Japanese writing .


Text is harder to pull off than most people think (C and G did theres best) , so don't beat yourself up over it. Looking back, I certainly fudged up the text in my entry ... Oh well.


I was between A, C, F and G.
By decision was C and F. A was fun to look at but it just was just low quality and G was exactly what everyone was expecting .

Maybe that's the aesthetic he was going for? Maybe he has a reason behind his work? Maybe it's representative of Kai's own emotional investment/bond with his bitbeast?

Then it wouldn't have fit on the canvas and if he had made it smaller to fit, it would have not been proportionate to the render in the foreground and look awkward. Overlapping layers adds depth.

The person is not psychic, he did not "have to know". And about the Japanese writing ... it's their entry?? Not yours?? They can do whatever they want in whatever language?? The aesthetic of the authentic logo and Japanese text actually fits well with the render??

A lot of your commentary is unnecessary and a bit rude/harsh, considering your own skills (and entry) at the moment. Please be more considerate of others, thanks. There is a certain discrepancy between constructive criticism and blatant bashing.

I believe everybody's entitled to his or her own opinion, regardless of their accuracy. No reason let your jimmies get rustled because you disagree with what someone says about another person's art; after all, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

However, Entry G's Tyson is holding an HMS launcher, sooo...

"Just saying", my favourite entries are E and G. F unfortunately appears to have a great background, but the two images take up too much space, so the overall arrangement is not satisfying for me, in terms of graphics.


To whoever did entry G, by the way, "Kinomiya" should have been written in Kanji, like on http://animemanga.worldbeyblade.org/inde...o_Kinomiya Seeing it in Hiragana is sort of weird, but I like the effect of seeing Japanese.



Overall, I agree with Aɴɢʀʏ Fᴀᴄᴇ that everybody is entitled to their opinion. I would just be very wary of using the word 'mediocre' left and right, though.

I am not saying you opinion is wrong. I was pointing out that your choice of words was very poor. Affirming that your graphic skills are not great adds to my argument that most of your comments had no basis.

I wasn't being rude, I was just taken aback and a bit surprised about how you decided to comment.

I know a good bit about GFX (from stalking threads GFX for like a year), but for multiple reasons I have crappy editing apps and I'm not good since I just started.

I'd prefer not to participate in this contest, seems like it's not fun anymore having to deal with this host. Not like there won't be more, since these are pretty popular. Take me out (or leave me and get someone a free pass to the next round, since my entry kinda sucked and I didn't really spend much time on it.)

C, E and G caught my eye the most.

E and G are the most sound graphically, but I really like the simplicity and cleanliness of C. E would have benefitted from more blending and possibly a higher resolution background, while both would have been helped with cleaner text (or a better style of text). Another possibility for G in my opinion would be moving the logo to the same area of the text or completely removing it. I do like the lighting in G and I think that some smudging of the render (if the style was smudge) or clipping masks of the render onto splatter brushes would have helped tremendously with the blending. I also agree with Kai-V that F seems to have a very nice background, but render placement doesn't make it appealing enough. Good turnout guys!

P.S. Borders though... I like to keep them either 1 pixel all around, or cinematic borders of varying sizes and colors depending on the need. Thick borders around graphics doesn't do them well unless executed amazingly (such as this style where the entire image is enclosed in a border of related images, it's a complex style that's really cool to look at).

King; taking stuff online that personally isn't exactly the right idea in my experiences. From a non-biased point of view, if someone says something that insults you over the internet, it doesn't matter at all. I made the mistake of taking something said online personally, and it didn't go well. On that note, you create your own fun – you shouldn't let someone ruin your fun for you. I'm not on anyone's side here, just trying to offer some non-biased input based off my past experiences.

C and G gets my votes

A: All I see is Chaos and over-doing. Too much colors, effects, blending, etc. I think you were going for Inverted Colors? Well, It didn't go well didn't it? My suggestion: Know the fundamentals, like Blending (The part where the focal should be one with everything, making it look natural and not seem out of place), Lighting, etc.

B: It would have looked a little better if you managed to create Flow to the BG, then blended in the Focal. The direction is too messy, plus the focal is a little out of place. The text effect could have been better if you change the blend mode to something nicer.

C: MINIMAL AT IT'S FINEST. Seriously, I love minimalistic design and this is no exception. Hands down with this

D: Tip 1: Use fine renders, as in good quality once too. Tip 2: Use Pen tool A LOT when creating your own renders. It gives you cleaner and better results. Also, remember you don't always have to do the Rules of Third. It's pretty much a technique to make things a lot interesting, but not always to be followed. It could have been better if you centered it alongside the bg image.

E: I think it would have been a little better if you didn't stick with a monotone background. A little red and yellow there and it would have blended the focal in quite nicely.

F: Too big Focals. Also, that light source is bugging me. I think it would have been better without it.

G: SO. CLEAN. I CANT EVEN- Kidding aside, blending and depth is superb. The match between yellow and blue is topnotch and placement of everything is clean. Nice job on this one

Well, C and G are really the only ones I find pleasing to look at. C is too plain though so I went with G as my first. The others are too "effect spammed".

C&G.
C is simple in design and has a VERY clear photo of MSUV. That's rare. GJ.

G is very standard but awesome as well. Enjoy the editing very much so; Japanese text is never bad.
