Not sure if this ideas popped up before, but I think would be a good idea to have an open category at tournaments and such where you can battle with just about anything. Be it MFB, Plastics, HMS, homemade or modified. I think it's more in the spirit of the anime, where blades weren't just store bought.

I've only been here for a while, but how come I don't know about this?
Yes, there are 4 possible formats:
- Plastic Format
- HMS Format
- Standard Format (MFB)
- Open Format (where all three systems; plastics, HMS & MFB can be used together).
You'll never see the WBO have a division for modified parts, ever.
That being said, even though I developed the Open Format, I'm not sure I see the point of it, as anyone who plays competitively will just use MFB anyway.
