The new PS3 slim will be released on September 1st of this year.
It will feature a new 120GB hard drive and a new streamlined look.

I love my original PS3 320GB just the way it is but this new look is pretty sexy, although they have gone back to using the original PS2 font on the system.
I like the old style font, especially compared to the Spiderman font.
This seems a bit pointless, yes it is better energy and will be lower price but honestly, the PS3 doesn't have much in the way of games at all.
Do you think there's a point of buying one if you already have the original?

Killzone,LBP and Uncharted own all xbox games.
I've got both but I don't think ill be getting this version of the console.

Well, there might be a few that would be worth it but most games that are out for it also seem to be on the 360. FF13 would be a good reason to get one though.

Pointless to ones who don't know. Sony has drastically reduced PS3 production costs with the PS3 slim (new, smaller, cheaper BD-drive, etc.). To the point where it's estimated they're finally making money off every PS3 sold. That's huge considering it once cost Sony $800 to make one, and the PS3 slim is estimated to cost $250 to make one.
It also allows Sony to relaunch the PS3, with the nostalgia from the PS1, and PS2 in the logo, as well as a much lower price. The Slim is going to play a large role into what happens in the next year or two.

If I didn't already own a PS3, I'd buy one simply because of Sony's first party, and second party lineup, which really no one can despute has the most depth (in terms of genres, etc.), and some of the highest quality we've seen this gen. And now it seems all the smaller Japanese developers are starting to flee from the 360, as they finally figured out releasing a 360 exclusive JRPG in Japan is a recipe for a bomba. Heck some are not even doing a 360 version because they think it'll sell so poor.

Now that is funny because they are putting the PS3 slim at £250 in the UK. Also, they have gone and but the orignal one at £250 now as well because of it's release, Why would people bother with the old one then?
Edit: I know with the FF13 thing, I just said it to give myself a reason to buy a PS3 one day, who knows though, it might be a lot better on the PS3.

£250 doesn't equal $250 dollars. Pretty sure with the exchange rate it's somewhere around $300. So they're still making money.
As for the PS3 phats, people would buy them A) because they're unaware of the Slim, B) like the design (I prefer the slim's though), or C) get some games, or movies bundled with the console.
If I had a choice I would still choose the original over the slim.
I think the slim is bland looking compared.

Actually 250 GBP is about 412 USD
So they're making more profit.
Anyway they are goona sell pretty fast.
Now i'm wondering if the original will be discontinued in time?
Such a shame that when it comes to England, compared to $300 (?) It'l be bumped to £200
I think £200 is a pretty good deal.
But I wouldn't expect anything less from sony.
With the PS3slim at $299 now, it's a viable product to me Vs. the upcoming 299 Elite.
I'm actually considering getting it now.

I've never owned a Playstation, but something I have to give kudos to Sony for is taking the time to hone their system design down. I mean my 360 Power Brick on its own is like half the size of this thing.

Sony stopped making the original PLAYSTATION 3 models back in April/May, where production switched to the PlayStation 3 slim. So those models are officially discontinued.

Which they will sell since many people didn't want to buy it because of the price and the money problems they have/still having. So they might make a huge profit with this.

I made the mistake of buying one for 2 games (Uncharted and MGS4) and well... Let's just say I haven't gotten much use at all out of it besides watching movies.
The PS3 Slim is pretty awesome. The original (fat) PS3 looks a lot better than the slim though. But it's good that they finally dropped the price. Now, I’m actually considering getting one.
