so which shinigami do you think are better the bleach ones or the death note ones, i prefer the death note ones cause they are freakin awesome
That's not a very good comparison, really.

But if you really want to go into details, here, I'd have to go for Bleach Shinigamis. First of all, they themselves are humans or, at least, were raised by beings that have human-like knowledge and morals, which makes them human in part. In a way, you could say that such a thing is quite appropriate for angels of death, since, after all, who would be better at judging humans than other humans, kinda following the mentality of 'Don't do to others what you wouldn't want others to do to you'. It's an objective point of view that actually punishes those that, according to their beliefs, did wrong. Really, the only one that killed the wrong-doers in Death Note was Light and he wasn't a Shinigami. For all we know, Shinigamis just kill random people when they need to live longer, whoever their victim is and whatever it had done or hadn't done.

And it's true that Death Note Shinigamis do look incredibly awesome, much more than most Shinigamis do in Bleach, anyway, but most of them also lack any kind of dept and seem incredibly shallow, though you could argue that's the point of their characters. After all, Ryuuk did say that most Shinigamis forgot why they exist to begin with, leading them to kinda waste their time all day, having "fun" with other gods of death all day long and only reaping souls when their own life-span comes close to ending, which is an interesting contrast to Bleach's Shinigamis. After all, they don't take any lives, they simply guide them to Heaven, or the Soul Society, in this case, which, unlike in Death Note, shows them as more gentle divine beings as Ryuuk & co. After all, the first soul reaping we see in Bleach is of Rukia calmly explaining to a dead soul that he won't go to Hell, but to a better place, the Soul Society, with an incredibly soft voice, showing at least Rukia as a god of death that cares for the souls she reaps.

So, in the end, my vote goes to Bleach. This topic might get closed, anyway, so, what the hell XD
