the first thing you should do is to think about your favorite spirit, techniques or animal
then you can think about your single bey, yes you should only have a single bey, your own bey that means like gingka, or any character from beyblade you can guess. so here are the tips:
for example your favourite, animal or spirit is like bull
the first thing you should know is to how the animal behaves what he/she does that contains awesome powers means that you should start collecting all info about that particular animal.
like a bull has awesome powers in his horns, tough head and mighty attacking powers
in this case you should power on the attacking and toughness means defense type.
and now you can customize your bey like this:
face bolt :bull
energy ring:bull, because it's your spirit
fusion wheel:thunder or grand etc. or any bold that has more weight becoz it has the defense
spin track:armor, because it would like a wild bull
performance tip:ball or wide ball
and now you are ready
