Viva la vida is my most played song in iTunes.

It never gets old. <3
Roan will love this thread. I'm surprised there wasn't a Coldplay thread before...
"You know how I know you're gay? You listen to Coldplay."

i like coldplay though
I loooooooooove Coldplay.

Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head and Viva la Vida are all incredible albums that I listen to pretty frequently. I want to go see them in concert really bad, I just missed them earlier this month. Couldn't convince anyone to go with me. lol
idk why but I tend to daydream a lot when listening to Violet Hill. They are really catchy. Apparently, the lead singer (idk his name) visits my town pretty frequently. He probably owns a house out here like every other artist.

Damn.

Chris Martin. Wink
A rush of blood to the head is my favorite album of theirs.

Followed by Viva La Vida. There's something distinct about Coldplay that makes their sound unique.

I knew his wife's name, I knew his kid's name, but I didn't know his name.

Thank you.

haha, what? i like me some coldplay but i don't think this is true at all. i think chris martin has spent his entire career trying to be like thom yorke and other various artists.

coldplay is good music, but not what i would call unique.

Um... I have never heard anything like "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends". I would definitely call that album unique.

As for their previous albums, well... They aren't very unique but I still love them.
It's a nice change of pace from my normal taste in music. Very mellow and easy on the ears.

i agree that viva la vida is their most ambitious album (ironic that so many people are suing them claiming they stole it).

i like a lot of their stuff, don't get me wrong. but a lot of it isn't groundbreaking stuff and is pretty safe music.
Who is suing them?

there are a lot of suits from a lot of people actually. i'm sure its on viva la vida's wiki page

They're like the most mainstream band in the world, I don't really think they can afford to do anything groundbreaking. lol

Viva la Vida was a huge departure stylistically and artistically from their older works though, and was kind of huge risk for the band. I remember when they first released the single for Viva la Vida before the album came out and everyone was really concerned that the shift in style would doom them to poor record sales. Little did they know it would go on to be the best selling album of 2008. lol

As for them being sued, that's mostly just over the song Viva la Vida:

Wikipedia Wrote:Coldplay were briefly accused of plagiarism of "The Songs I Didn't Write" by American alternative band Creaky Boards, for the melody of "Viva la Vida".[10] Creaky Boards' band member Andrew Hoepfner claimed that Martin had heard them playing the song at a live show in October 2007.[11] The band released a video clip, in which it compares sections of both songs.[11] Coldplay denied the claim; band spokesman Murray Chambers said Martin was working in AIR Studios in London at that time, having checked the singer's diary.[12] In addition, Coldplay had recorded a demo version of "Viva la Vida" in March 2007, long before Creaky Boards performed it live in October of the same year.[11] Creaky Boards later retracted the accusations and speculated that both songs may have been inspired by the video game The Legend of Zelda.[12]

Around the same time as the Creaky Boards incident, it was also widely alleged that certain track elements of "Viva la Vida" were plagiarized from well-known French musician Alizée, who produced the track J'en ai marre!. [13]

On 4 December 2008, American guitarist Joe Satriani filed a copyright infringement suit against Coldplay in Los Angeles.[14] The suit claims that "Viva la Vida" incorporates "substantial, original portions" of his instrumental track "If I Could Fly" from his 2004 album Is There Love in Space?.[15] The band has denied the allegation, saying the similarities were "entirely coincidental".[16]

Cat Stevens however, has stated that the song is very similar to his song "Foreigner Suite", stating "My son brought it to my attention and said: 'Doesn't that sound like 'Foreigner Suite?'"[17] Stevens stated that any legal action he might take "depends on how well Satriani does."[17] Coldplay drummer Will Champion denied the claim, stating, "We're confident we haven't done anything wrong."[18]

Most of these lawsuits have gone nowhere, so whatever.
I need to learn to use Wikipedia more often before I ask questions like that. :\

Geeze, people will do anything for money.

Thanks, both of you.
I seriously don't think Joe Satriani's track is anything like Viva La Vida. Even the parts that supposedly sound similar...

Coldplay is the best and I went to their Concert in Melbourne!
Still can't believe that Guy is suing Coldplay! What a nerve!

I really couldn't hear any similarities..
I can hear subtle similarities between the violin and guitar parts in the two songs, but really I think the songs are vastly different overall with a coincidental similarity in chord progression.

Whatever. Joe Satriani is a douchebag anyway.

I laughed out loud when I read this. Nobody likes X&Y.

also, they're ok.

I like quite a few songs on X&Y (Square One, White Shadows, Fix You, Talk, Swallowed in the Sea and Till Kingdom Come) but overall the album isn't that great compared to their others.

So true.
OMG, since so many people are suing Coldplay cause their music sounds the same, why not sue eachother as well?
