This thread is for the discussion of Weiß Schwarz (pronounced as "Vais Shwarts"), a very popular collectible card game (CCG) in Japan that's starting to see some emergence in the Western world.

For those of you who play Cardfight!! Vanguard, you'll know that Bushiroad is the company that publishes the said game; Bushiroad also publishes Weiß Schwarz, which was around before Vanguard.

The object of Weiß Schwarz is to utilize your Character, Event and Climax cards of your deck to attempt and force your opponent to Level 4. This is done by keeping track of damage (time) you have on your Clock. Each Level can have a maximum of 6 damage. Any more after will cause the player to move up a Level. Although Leveling up means the player is that much closer to defeat, it also gives you access to stronger cards as your Level goes up. Another thing worth mentioning is that your don't lose if you're deck runs out, but I'll link the rules here later.

Weiß Schwarz is divided between two sides: the Weiß, or "White" side, and the Schwarz, or "Black" side. Series in the Weiß side are basically from anime featuring pretty girls, while series in the Schwarz side feature anime, manga, and games that are more geared towards boys; the Japanese call the Weiß side "cute", and the Schwarz side "cool".

I'll leave links here as it would be best to read what they have to say, rather than me trying to explain deck building tips, better/worse series, etc.

There are also numerous videos on YouTube you guys can watch on how to play the game is that's your preferred method of learning.

I recently started playing this myself as a lot of Vanguard players in Vancouver started with this game. Currently, I'm still fiddling with a "Sengoku Basara" Trial Deck to better understand the game, but I'm looking to play "Angel Beats!" and possibly "Fairy Tail".

When picking a series, it should be fairly obvious that you choose one because you watched/read/played it, and liked it. Remember, games like this and Vanguard give all decks an equal opportunity for winning.

>> Japanese TCG.

I'm not at all familiar with this, but I am interested, thanks Momo!

Shame this was your first post in awhile..
lol Dan, it doesn't have to be about Beyblade. When I come here, I jump straight into this section of the WBO. Besides, there are so many card games that get overlooked simply because they're in another language, and since WS is one of the most popular CCG's in Japan, I thought people may want to look at it.

There are some cool series that the game has to offer.
While I was thinking of trying this game out, only Rochester, NY in my area sells it. Total bummer...
I heard there was an English version out there. Or TD at least. Wasnt successful I heard.
The Disgaea Trial Deck was released in English, but people here prefer the Japanese stuff. The recent Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika is a really good set I hear.

At Kaji: you should definitely try it out. If I can set up a new Skype account some time, we can probably play. Joyful_3
I wouldn't mind. I'd have to order those cards from Rochester, though.
Oh man, one of my friends at locals let me play his Angel Beats! deck before I was going to buy one similar to his; it's so OP. Apparently, I pulled off a lot of things that he normally doesn't have the luck to. It was quite outrageous.
im going to get a deck of these cards as soon as i win a vanguard tournament, cause i want to know im good at vanguard before trying this game out, lucky the store i go for vanguard also sells this game.
You should just get a Trial Deck to teach yourself how to play. From the newer series, Guilty Crown and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika. The Guilty Crown Booster that's to be released soon is going to have some really good cards, and Madoka is a really good set in general.
Alright, started playing this game, and I'm in the process of making a Guilty Crown deck. My local hobby shop should also be getting a new shipment of the Guilty Crown Trial deck as well sometime this month, so I should be ready to play (and learning in the process) by the start of June!

The problem is though that I was also considering making a Shana, Angel Beats, Rewrite, and Little Busters! deck (if I enjoy this game), however those are pretty old sets I've heard so it's hard to find them.
So this card game uses different anime characters from different shows? Very very odd.
Yep. The reason why it hasn't taken off in other places outside of Japan is pretty much because of copyright and licensing agreements.
Wait, so they don't sell English versions in the US? Weird, when I found out that a store like Hammergirl sells it or something, I assumed that it was in English.
There are only a small handful of Series that have been reprinted in English. Off the top of my head: Puella Magi Madoka Magika.
is the symphogear trial deck any good? it looks interesting enough.
I saw mention of a Lucky Star series on the wiki, so I am interested, hah. Of course, I don't think anyone would play an LS deck seriously. Honestly, I'll have to look into the CCG.
finally got a weiss schwartz deck, Puella Magi Madoka Magica trial deck english. i got too much jap info stuck in my head from songs and vanguard, so i didn't risk the overload and avoided the jap version. if i get good ill start jap with either fate zero or sympogear.
I've been wanting to pick up a proper shana deck, but it's hard to find boosters and trial decks now. (i've wandered away from yugioh more recently so I can try out this game.)

Too bad there's no online simulator like Dueling Network though.
Yeah, Shana's going to be a little tougher to find. If you try AmiAmi, they might have some boxes left.
