My friend gave me his friend's iPod to reformat, but but the thing is it won't reformat with like iTunes. I've tried it couple of times, but it won't work. Does anyone know how to do it at all?
if you have it set up for your ipod to act as an external hard drive id imagine you could just reformat it like a normal HDD and reinstal the OS
Isn't there like a combination of buttons you press or something?
Like menu plus middle button? I'm not sure, but try that out.

And how would you reinstall the OS?
when i got my ipod it came with a cd with itunes and a program used for updating the ipod. it checks for new versions of the OS and stuff and you can use it if you brick your ipod

Rare earth magnets rubbed against the exposed innards should do the trick.
have you brought up the menu you get from holding middle button+play/pause ?
i've never taken a close look at it, but that might be your best bet.
plug it in format using windows.
the os is flash based its not stored on the hard drive
