*So, as most may know, I like video games. So much that I've even bought a couple. And I've played them too! I've recently gotten into the Mother/EarthBound series and thought, "Hey, since I want to be a video game designer when I grow up, it would be swell to make a Mother game and actually release it in North America!" And so I got to work. I currently have a sketchbook that's 1/4 full of nothing but artwork dedicated for my Mother 4 project. One problem I had was the story. I knew it wasn't too important, especially considering that EarthBound did well by not taking its story too seriously, but I still needed an outline of events. I then learned that there was actually a novel published for Mother 2! I thought, "Gee, that's swell! I'll make a novel for Mother 4 so I have a plot outline! Oh, and I can share it on the WBO to feed my hunger for attention! Skiddly doo!" And so I began. So, just on a quick note, this is not related to the official Mother series. This is not based on an official Mother game being released. And this is NOT related to the fan-made Mother 4. (I'm excited for that.) So, sit down, grab your favorite morsel or substance and enjoy!
So whaddya think? It's pretty good, right? Right? RIIIIGHHH-
CHAPTER 1: Where are you, Brother? (Click to View)
It had been five years since Jack had seen his brother Aaron. Every day when he woke up and every night when he went to sleep, he would hear his brothers’ voice. “Don’t worry, Jack! I’ll find the ancient tower and be back before you can say, ‘treasure’!†And every evening, Jack would murmur, “Treasure.â€
His brother Aaron was a treasure hunter. He never kept to himself though, whatever he could find, he would sell it and give the money to his mother. Jack and his family lived in the little neighborhood of Hearthtown. Hearthtown was famous for its evenings – a calming, purple hue, light up by the warm, orange glow of the candles hanging in the lampposts. And the stars were so clear. Jack would look up at the sky sometimes and see stories in the stars.
However, since his father died, Jack only had his mother and Aaron. And when Aaron disappeared, he only had his mother. When his father died, his mother, Diana, only had little money. She devoted her life to her children. When Aaron disappeared, she was broken. Although Jack loved Aaron, he lived in his shadow. Aaron was taller and more handsome than he was. Plus, he would always give his mom money whenever she needed it. All Jack did was ask for more stew at dinner and argue about his bedtime.
When Aaron disappeared, Jack tried his best to fill in his hole. He would find his mother staring at his picture on the kitchen counter in the late night, when he woke to get a glass of milk. She would ask him, “Why did he leave?†Jack knew what Aaron went looking for. He went looking for the Tower to the Heavens. It was stated in legend that hidden behind the Lost Mountains, there was a tower that would lead to the sky, where, “Angels would dance in the sky and sing!†according to Aaron. It was filled with great treasure. Anyone could think Aaron went searching for it out of greed. But Jack knew the real answer. He would whisper in her ear, “Because he loved you.â€
