Well, I'm back(: and this means a new writing tourney...

I think.

I go back and fourth. Will this one crash like the last one? And everyone seems to quit after round one. Is there a way I can change this? I almost think adding a sort of committee would work?...I don't know. Should I even try this again? Or is it just a lost cause? If anyone has any say in this, please talk about it here.
ill join and i wont quit
Hold on, this isn't a signup. I still haven't decided if I'll even make another. I probably will, but in any case it's good that you feel that way. Thanks.
Maybe do it during the summer because people are busy with school and stuff nowadays. Even the PenPad Inaugural Tournament crashed so ehhh....
I would be happy to enter this one and stick with it.

That's a valid point; the only one that worked was the summer tourney. But even so, a lot of people quit after round 1. We went from 34 participants to 16-16! Out of 32! We lost more than half of the people that entered. I just don't want that to happen again. Maybe we need there to be consequences for quitting, unless it's a family emergency or something. But that's private, and they may not want to say that...hmm...

Me too... Eee

I'd be happy to enter if you do.
so no more reviews eh?
No, I'll probably start reviewing again. I guess a break was all I needed to relax my mind and set it straight.

Anyways, that's good. Looks like there are already some people interested in a tourney. I just don't know if I should wait until the summer, or start a tourney now.

I guess with midterms around the corner I'll put it off for a week or two...sorry guys.
Nah. I reckon everyone understands. plus,
since i never finish my stories... (bad habit) i really gotta get back to that.
im working on some now on my laptop but if there is a tourney i reckon i could make one.
I think the best thing to do this time is a singles writing tournament again, that went well and some had to pull out in the double because the partner hadn't written, might as well keep it simple and single. I also think there should be lets just say a group that makes sure everything goes smoothly.
Hm, with the PenPad one being a flop, I think we need a break. It's turning like what happened with the Graphic Tournaments. (Yes, I'm guilty) But the point is, having too many people compete at once is troublesome. Some submit, some don't. However, one by one battles are working pretty much. Maybe we should do a tourney during summer and battles during the other days?
I would truly like a bigger platform to show off with, but again, if the WBO's most dedicated writers, who have frequented PenPad, can't stay in, I'd rather not have one. The question remains: Does the reputation of some writers like Sparta scare new writers off? That said, I would enter and stay in if we do have one.
Hopefully not Uncertain I'd hate to find out I scare people...

Anyways, maybe we should wait a little while to work it out. I thought what we might do was only admit people we know will stay in, but that wouldn't give new writers a chance to enter. For now, I'll hold off on the idea. Maybe what we need is a sort of league? If we find people that seem to be loyal and write a lot, we could add them. Then people in the league could enter?...

Just a thought. I'm just shooting in the dark here.
I really like the idea of a writing tournament, i would have joined last time if i got into a team.
I for one am not a fan of a whole big tournament with lots of rounds. I think people start to lose interest after a while. They like the idea at the time but they just don't feel like it next week.
Perhaps just small one round challenges with a single writing topic so people know what they are signing up for and shouldn't lose interest. You can do a lot of little take-up challenges like that instead of a 'tournament' as such.
RowDog's idea is good, just one round where everyone enters their piece and people vote for it, i would definetely enter if it was held in the summer holidays
Adding on to RowDog's idea: Before you can enter a true tournament, first you have to win a few short challenges. This would show who was truly a good enough writer to join a tournament, and who would be dedicated enough to finish it. And as well as having one round challenges, have some two round ones as well, as if someone can't stay with a two round challenge, they don't belong in a tournament.
Also, I believe all of your tournaments have required a person to continue the same story they started in the first round. Face it, we've all started a story that we thought was a great idea when we started, but, as we got farther into it, realized that it was a terrible idea. Plus, the round's theme could completely contradict the plot. So, at least some tournaments should be series of one-shots (one chapter stories for those of you that don't know). Each round, have a theme for the new one-shot. They can be related to those from previous rounds, but will be judged on as a stand-alone piece. The themes should be fairly detailed and strict, but with enough leeway for it to be about whatever the person wants.
Another thing: Before the tournament starts, you should say exactly what it is about, maybe even the first few themes. In one of your first tournaments, I was completely misled what the tournament was going to be about, and I consequently dropped out before the first round ended. Adding on that, tournaments should NOT require you to write about Beyblade.
One more point: From now on, if a person drops out of a tournament, they should have to wait one or two before they can re-enter. A probation period, so to speak.
Hopefully some of this will be useful in improving the writing tournaments.
Hey, remember me Sparta?

I dunno if its good or not, but it reminds me that some guys joins and disappears.
Anyway, if you're going to do this, can I become a judge?

This is a great idea for PenPad, hah. Mind if I jack it? Anyway, I agree with most of both posts. Maybe themes should be revealed early. That way, even if the story is supposed to be continued, you can plan around that.

That might be unfair for if someone had to drop out for important reasons. It wouldn't be fair then, would it?

then we can set a exception rule that if people have important reasons, the handing date can be extended.

I would assume that this would be a given. Obviously, if the reason is important, then there would be no problem.
I like the idea. Sounds fair to me. I wouldn't put someone on probation if they dropped out because they broke their clavicle or something. Just common sense.

Maximum, what did you mean by one or two round tourneys? Those would be pretty short, if you ask me...
I was referring to RowDog's idea of the one round challenges. Tournament was the wrong word on my part.
These would be the "qualifiers," so to speak. The only reason two round challenges would be good is to show dedication. If someone can't stick around for two rounds, how will they stick around for an entire tournament?
Also, last tourney, one thing that led to it's downfall was deadlines. You would say it was due by a certain date, then every day after, you would lose points, and then lose the round. You never really followed through. I remember you accepted late entries a month after they were due. In a new tourney, we would have to be far more strict about that. Tell people have it on X day, and if it isn't, too bad, you lose the round. Even if it's only a day late.
Hey, why not making a 'continuous' story?

I meana, all of us will write the story together. For example, sparta, Temporal and I are 3 competitors.
After arranged, Sparta will write the first part, Temporal writes the middle, and I will write the ending.
Then find some people as judges and see if the story is good or not.

As everyone's 'style' of writing is not the same, it surely depends the writing skills of the competitors which is fixing a broken end.
