ya but nintendo's whole wi-fi infrastructure isnt too great. at least for the DS i could understand but they didnt have to use the same system for the Wii

That was made by EA, so I think they have a choice if they want to go by FC's or not (as far as I know).

No, there's no FC in it at all. You just go to the gamelobby and make a game/server. If you want it to be private to play with friend you can add a password to it
