Hmm it seem's i posted in the middle of an arguement, sorry i didnt realise, lol but it wasnt that obvious, yugioh! was obvious, when the main character won everytime, in dbz the main character actually got surpassed on a few seperate occasions.
But that's just my opinion lol.

Beykid this is a thread about why people bash anime; Anime will get bashed here no matter what kind. So stop being so sensitive.

That show was my favorite in childhood. But you're taking it way too seriously. Things don't (and aren't supposed to) make sense in it. The main character has a tail and can shoot beams out of his hands. His best friend doesn't have a nose! The characters are named after foods and the mayor of their city is a DOG. Chill the carp out.
and watch at least one saga and you 'll love it i reccomend the frieza saga or the trunks saga
i also have most of the trilogys dvds and i love gt too but it s less than the best akira toriyama cancelled it beause it lost the franchise poularity thats why they didnt put gt in burst limit
and to i agree totally with u about the first 16 episodes

The Dog is actually the President of Earth. Because Earth has one sole President, and he happens to bark... er huh?

you're doing a presentation on one of the most historically and culturally interesting places in the world and you're focusing on cartoons
there's no way for you to come out of this without looking like an idiot

I'd hope that anime would only be one small part of the presentation.

hey dude you do realize that there's stuff in japan that's actually cooler than anime
and that most japanese really don't care about it
right

talk about japanese cuisine, it's both awesome and relatable without sounding insane

Lol, calm down. I have lots of stuff I am presenting for Japan. Its economy, location, culture and much more. In a part of the project, I must show examples of movies, music, etc. That is why I asked about cool anime.

japan has sweet films and television that aren't cartoons
if you really must show some anime, show pokemon and cowboy bebop
May. 30, 2009 5:55 AM

that isn't the point
by showing an instantly recognizable children's series and a very strong series for adults that had a strong following in america you're showing too contrasting yet relevant aspects of japan's anime industry
or just show some hentai what do i care
May. 30, 2009 6:00 AM
Never realized the what pokemon has brought on to the united states, thx.
What is hentai, it sounds really interesting and I would love to learn about it.
p.s. jk

Well, I just came across this thread and I thought it seemed interesting because There are a lot of kids at my school who dis anime, mainly because they think its stupid and childish. suprisingly, a lot of the h8trs(lol)...have reasonable excuses for not liking anime such as they've had a bad impression on it, or maybe they dis anime lovers because of the childish, perverted, etc. like storylines. Honestly though, Americans like Japanese animation a whole lot more than the japanese do. In japan, if you like anime, you're a neet otaku. in america, you're a neat otaku.

obsessing over anything as much as anime fans do is unhealthy

What always pisses me off is when people talk as though anime is a separate class of television programming compared to other cartoons. Anime is actually a shortened form of the Japanese word Animeshuun, which is simply the Japanese pronunciation of the English word Animation.
Osamu Tezuka, the godfather of Anime, created Astroboy after a visit to the United States, where he was shown Mickey Mouse and Betty Boop cartoons. If you take Betty Boop's and Mickey Mouse's faces and fuse them together, you basically get Astroboy.
A good chunk of Japanese animation and graphic novels is largely derivative, either of early US styles or more often as of late, each other's styles. This much can be evidenced whenever some high schooler these days shows off their "sweet anime style drawing skills". It all looks the same. The market is flooded with the same big eyes, small mouth stuff that largely came from groups like CLAMP a decade ago.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pure hater. I love animation, regardless of nation of origin. I'm a HUGE fan of the work of Satoshi Kon, and I even found myself enjoying more mainstream, cookie-cutter series like Air Gear and Death Note. It just drives me bonkers when people wax poetic about how original and different anime is. Examine the medium! It's not nearly as original as you think!
