I've been noticing a lot of habits between these spam bots. Firstly, they have odd names. Now don't get me wrong, there are some odd names here, but these are distinctly different. Example: http://worldbeyblade.org/User-Vagogreemia
MOST of the bots that I have seen, their birth age on their profile has been at 22 years of age, DOB 1/1/1989. I think that if there was a way to filter out some of these generic profiles, we could avoid a few spam bots. That being said, that still poses a problem to people who would actually have been born on that day, however that's still a 1 in a thousand chance of someone signing up that' was actually born that day on that year Tongue_out
A lot of them actually are "23 years old", based on what they write in their profile. I do not think the birthdate is similar either.
Huh, this is interesting. For some reason, I seem to be the only one that has yet to have seen even 1. (Possibly because I spend all of my time in the "Your Creations" forum?

I really like the quiz idea, especially the one about a spinning top. It works because people who are actually signing up would know what it is (Why else would they sign up?), while bots would just guess. Still, depending on how many possibilities there are, they could get lucky. Maybe 2 questions just to be safe...
I have a possible bad scenario for the quiz:

How do you spell Beyblade?

"Battle Strikers"

I kid, everyone would know that, unless English wasn't their primary language.
...I was JUST going to post that, but I figured I'd be warned, seeing as it could be seen as sarcastic.

Seems a bit to easy o.0 if they are humans (i think kai-v said that could be wrong tho)They could just look at the question Speechless then go on with there botting or w.e they do to waste there lives
Thanks for posting this Heart.
I have seen this on soooooooo many sites... Do you think a plugin might become available that blocks out spiders and bots? (NO THIS IS A REAL POST. NO SARCASM INTENDED)
You should see BA if it comes back up... Raykon just seemed to disappear and the place is overcrowded with spiders and bots o_0
Unless that is what you call "spiders", a lot of our current SPAMmers are really not bots. One of them has been seen coming back online almost everyday even if they are banned. A real bot SPAMs once and leaves.
I just helped eliminate that mikel11 guy. Doing those annoying SPAM sales threads all over the boards.

Of course, you replied to the thread, why as Heart pointed out, was just making it worse.
Things just got interesting, first one to report 50 spam threads win!

Jke jke (Not jking)

I haven't seen any recently but it may get worse if it isn't sortted quick enough. If only there was a thing like....If a thread has over 10 reports in a hour it gets automatically closed for a mod to review it later?
I have seen a massive uprising of these lately. They have been the thing I've reported most. Reported one today. Hope we can find a better way to stop this.

Yeah, I've done so on here and on ROBLOX a lot.
BUMP

Actually, I'm on board with the 2 question registration thing. I mean, it's on another forum I use, so why not here? We could even provide a hint

EXAMPLE:

What is MFB's main character? HINT: His bey's a Pegasus
______________________

What is the main character's best FEMALE friend? HINT: She has a portable computer and goggles.

And if they can't figure it out, people would have the brains to look it up.
I checked out the user Kai-V pointed out (Vagogreema) , his website is this: http://more-proxies.com/proxy-types/
Kinda seems suspicious. I can't really understand it, but it looks suspicious. Maybe there are other users out there from that Proxy site.
A proxxy helps you prevent others from seeing your IP address. But yes, it does seem pretty spuciusos.
I just found a spam bot that posted its ad in almost all of the forums.

Unhappy Unhappy Unhappy reported it.
You do not need to post here when you see them. Just report it and move on.
Saw a thread advertising stolen credit cards yesterday by a guy called soloution, i have never seen this thread so i posted on his thread asking him why he was advertising his 'services' on the WBO, sorry
You guys can have a generic question to filter out human bots.
A lot of our "spam bots" now are not bots, but actual people who sign up and post the same messages. So, a generic question would not be helpful at all.
Eh, okay.
Proxies and simply people from literally different addresses counteract the absolute effectiveness of IP banning - and yes, we do have methods for searching, matching, banning, suspending, etc. IP addresses, both by post and original registration IP.

The fact is that Spambots aren't really a big problem for us, because we do have things set up to counteract them - we get maybe five in a week, and given how massive this forum is, that is pretty good. That they're generally gone before they can do anything outside of one or two posts that are typically immediately reported is nothing to think slight of, either.

Please do not make arguments under the assumption that this forum is some garbage freeforum being run by people without any idea of how anything works.
Also, I judged that the situation had calmed down enough to remove the obligatory activation by email, in order to now avoid all the problems that had caused with Gmail accounts that never received our activation email. The situation has really not worsened since I have done that.
Lately whenever i tried clicking on a "last post" or an actual thread on the Recent Post section of the index page it sends me back as if i just refreshed the page Pinching_eyes
