Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey has famously stated, “The first person to live to be 1,000 years old is certainly alive today …whether they realize it or not, barring accidents and suicide, most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries.”

So what do you guys think? I think that its amazing and i really hope this comes to fruition.
this would be nice. no big deal or anything.
I'm up for living to 1000 as long as I don't look like a raisin.
(Beyblade's will be ancient artifacts by then, lol)
I don't like this idea at all... The world will get way too populated, and also, do you think your quality of living is going to be good when you're like 80? Let alone 700. Even if it is, there's still that overpopulation thing.

I hope this never comes to fruition. Life wouldn't be bearable for a thousand years, I'd commit suicide before then.

Yeah, I see your point.
What an awful idea this is
No one is forcing this upon anyone.

And that prevents it from causing huge problems?

As much as I would love to extend my life to 1000 years, I'm not sure this is a road we should be heading down.
agreed; nature can only be tested so much. All living things must eventually die, humans included. If old age won't kill us, scarce resources, disease and countless other things will find a way to do so.
Galactic colonization is the answer.

sustainable living is the answer
I wonder what you`d look like at 1000? I mean, imagine one of those 100 year old grandmas x10. Besides, wouldnt you be breaking something every 2 seconds. I would hit my insane/the mean grandpa that supposedly eats kids stage around 468 years old.

EDIT: We need to find a way to survive with no oxygen and extreme gravity.
Also who the hell wants to be working at like 200 years old? Eventually we all want to stop, and I can guarantee that even if we live this long the already diminishing model of retirement at age 60-65 will completely vanish.

Clearly you did not read this
The whole point is to stop aging.
I wouldnt mind living a bit extra so i could do things I wanted to do that just take to much time to ever posably be able to do. but to live forever? and not age at all? No way. We'd do everything we wanted and have nothing to do.

Quote:We need to find a way to survive with no oxygen and extreme gravity.
We'd have to make test tube babies and completely change all organs and DNA. I can't say never, but that will most likely never happen XD
Despite humanities quest for immortality, I believe that it is not a good idea. Life should be ephemeral. Living, knowing that ultimately you are going to die, and still continuing to find reason for your existence is much more meaningful than living forever, I think.
However, if this means I can die at 100 years old and still be beautiful, I'm down.

Yeah. That wouldn't be so bad.

This^
I wouldn't be able to stand living any longer than that, though. It's just not a good idea, overpopulation and all.
People can't even handle themselves 30 years into life. How do we expect to keep a healthy mentality for 1,000 years? I can't imagine a thousand years of the world. I love you all dearly, but there's only so much of me the world can take. I don't think the world wants me tugging at its sleeve and whining about life for one thousand years. Not to mention, there are certain kinds of people in this world who are NOT meant to live for an extended period of time. Life spans are there with good reason.

Now, if the world were much more flexible and not based so much on capitalism, I'd consider it.

It's what's on the inside that counts, Brad. :}

i'm 20 and i'm pretty bored
I wouldn't want to live for a thousand years I can tell you that, everything would be so boring.
i think the idea of this is the same as the idea of being in the world alone at 1st it would seem awsome and ud be thinking omg this is sooo cool but then you would start to see its not as good as you first thought. Well atleast it would be like that for me.
