In terms of the card game, not the anime, manga, or video games. Personally, I think both are fun. They have their pros and cons; both are complicated in their own ways. With Pokemon, you need x amount of energy cards to attack or you're screwed and can only have like 3 Pokemon in your bench (forgive me if I'm wrong, it's been ages.) With Yu-Gi-Oh, you have to read card effects that sometimes make no sense, calculate lifepoints (which is a pain), and even more. What do YOU think?
Needs a poll for this lol.
I have always liked YGO better, just because I think it's simpler. Then again this is just imo.
EDIT: also what Joe said VVV xD
I vote YGO. It just seems to have a faster pace than Pokemon. In YGO you can pull off and insane combo and get out an insane monster in one turn, in Pokemon you HAVE to pace yourself.
YGO is way more fun imo. It'a all about strategy.

Yes, this thread really does need a poll.

Five on the bench.

They both have their own game play. Pokemon is a for pacing game. You have to build up your Pokemon to attack. Sometimes it takes 20min when I'm battling my league to make a move. We just sit there loading our Pokemon up to attack.
Yu-Gi-Oh! is more complex sometimes. There are many cards to collect, making it a pain to get some of the cards you need. You are able to pull off amazing, and confusing combos, unlike Pokemon.

All in all, I prefer Pokemon. It's more fun to me. I can actually win at it...
I prefer Yu-Gi-Oh! to Pokemon, for multiple reasons.

1) There's more to collect in Yu-Gi-Oh! and it can be pretty easy to get them.

2) Yu-Gi-Oh! is faster paced. It may sometimes be difficult to understand from a spectator's point of view, but they can always understand how anything happened later.

3) All the effects are really fun. In Pokemon, there are tons of Pokemon with at least one move/ability shared with another Pokemon. Only a few Yu-Gi-Oh! cards share abilities (Servant of Catabolism & Jinzo #7, per se), so I think it makes the game more diverse.

4) The number of cards in a Yu-Gi-Oh! deck can vary, whereas the cards in a Pokemon deck are set at (50? 60? I honestly can't remember). EDIT: Although Daegor is right. There is sort of an unspoken rule among players to use 40 cards.

5) No cards in a Yu-Gi-Oh! deck are completely necessary. I mean, there are "Staple cards," but you don't need those, while you need a lot of Energies in a Pokemon deck, or, as GPerseus Master said, you're screwed.

But that's just the reasons I prefer Yu-Gi-Oh! over Pokemon.

Any player worth his salt uses 40 cards, though,
The majority of us are going to say "Yugioh" just because there are more yugioh players on this board.

And even though I do like yugioh better, Odin you kind of do need staple cards or else you're screwed. Any deck without things like: Monster Reborn, Solemn Warnings, Dark Hole, D-prison, Book Of moon, etc are going to have a hard time winning.
YGO, just because of its strategy. You have spells, traps, and multiple types of monsters. You can summon multiple ways, etc.

That, my friend, is most untrue. There are millions of decks without those cards. Have you ever gone through two experienced players decks? With all the cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh world, there is no doubt that you won't see a Monster Reborn or a Book of Moon. I've won duels just fine without those cards. As Odin said, you dont need staple cards depending on what kind of deck you're using. I have an Ancient Gear deck, so of course spell and trap cards that support Ancient Gears are staple, but in this kind of deck only and not others.
I prefer Yugioh cards over pokemon cards because the pokemon cards are all so fake and have wrong or made up moves.
are you sure that the cards you have were actually made by the official company? I have multiple pokemon cards, and they have correct moves that match the general appearance of the pokemon and it's abilities. I do still prefer yugioh, because it was actually simpler to me. I still don't know how to use energy cards properly
well i only just started playing the pokemon tcg, i have had the cards for a while but they were mostly fake and only recently i got a proper deck, the blue assault black and white deck, yu-gi-oh however i played since prep and ive been in and out it, based on what i see on tv, i would like a battle but my brother wont play and nobody plays it at school. im going to have to go with yu-gi-oh, being an old school player, but it might soon change so i wont vote on the poll yet.
YGO
Beacuse I have a win combo and pokemon is just more sold and bought by six year old girls.

You want to say that to my face? I could take you any day! It's a Beybattle to the DEATH!
Yu-Gi-Oh! But Pokemon Games Are Better Than The YGO TCG
I'm going to go against both and say Magic The Gathering is the best. Smug

But in answering your question Yu Gi Oh seems to be more complex and more indepth. That being said however I have a mate who plays both but says he prefers Pokemon because it's more fun in general.

Same here, except for the part about the games being better than the YGO TCG, I do like the Pokemon games, but not as much as the YGO TCG, however, in a battle of the games, it would be a lot more difficult, some YGO games are awesome (YGO WCS 2010) and some kind of suck (YGO WCS 2009) whilst the Pokemon games are all very good, but it can some times get boring, I've got a pokemon that needs training for the E4 in B/W but it's taking forever.
Pokemon dominates video games; Yu-Gi-Oh dominates TCG in my opinion.

GLaDLY
we get to use 2 beys

^ Nice GLaDOS reference, but this doesn't belong here, send a PM or something.
Pokemon.

I've never been able to play yu gi oh for more than two weeks and not get bored.

Pokemon is also more fun for me mostly because I know all the pokemon, and more about them. Yu gi oh I know next to nothing about, so I don't enjoy it.

I think that also makes a difference; whether you are knowledgeable of it or not.
i personaly like pokemon better but yugioh has the better card game
Duel Masters.
I know that on a global scale Magic The Gathering comes first, then Pokémon and then Yu-Gi-Oh!.
I myself prefer Yu-Gi-Oh! over Pokémon. It took some time for me to learn the rules but it is the concept of the game that entertain me. Of course there are some decks in the TCG and OCG that irritates me and I prefer to find cool fun decks and try to make them competitive, and that is what makes it fun for me. I know well that you can do that in the Pokémon TCG as well. There are plenty of ways to play the game with the help of Spells, Traps, Rituals, Fusions, Synchros and Exceeds makes the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG (and OCG) stand out a bit.

Therefor is Yu-Gi-Oh! my fav. TCG so far.
