If you are willing to spend $60 on 8 hours of campaign(or 20-100+ for an RPG) then why the he'll would you have issues with spending $60 on A YEARS WORTH OF SERVICE. XBL last you longer than any game you will ever play for mere pocket change a day. If you look logically at the situation you will see you have no good argument against paying for service.

I never buy 8 hours-long game. That's just stupid.

There's a reason why I'm an RPG fan: I get what I pay for.

Here's an argument: The only reason why Microsoft makes people pay for Xbox Live, since both the Wii network and the PSN are free, is because they're greedy. That's all.
Wheres the like button for this?
you get what you pay for, or lack of. ha ha ha.

Anyone who ever gave them isn't exactly Einstein, either.

It's the internet. Unless you're dealing with a safe method of paying things with your credit card, like PayPal, don't give your info, of course.

Just buy PSN point cards. Those are pretty useful.
sony in general is a bigger company than paypal, which is why psn was expected to be safe
Yes, you do have a point. I have no arguments against that.

I still think you should just have bought PSN Point cards, though. There's no way those could back-stab you.

All large companies are greedy, but Microsoft knows that they can maintain a better online service if they have the cash to do so. By your logic ILM is greedy because they charge money for special effects when they could do CGI for free.

Your comparison is pretty off because in the video game industry free online play is the industry standard (free with Sony, free with Nintendo, free with Apple, free with PC). It's not the industry standard in the world of film to get sfx work done for free.

PC? Really? There are a lot of games you have to pay for just to play online.

Oh my, you're actually bringing up MMOs aren't you? Do you know that pay to play MMOs are a dying breed? Many end up retooling themselves as free to play within months of launch.

Besides, that's just a segment of the market where you pay to play. Do you know that with the MMOs on the 360 (of which there are like a grand total of 2 thanks to Microsoft's tactics) that you pay the subscription fee to the game in addition to Xbox Live fees? There's nothing of the sort on PC or PS3. You pay to play the game, you don't pay to have the privilege to play the game online. You didn't have to pay to play Halo 2 online on PC, but you did have to pay if you wanted to play online with Xbox. You don't have to pay to play Bad Company 2 online on PC, or PS3 but you do have to pay if you want to play it online on 360.

Industry standard is free online gaming. One manufacturer, and one segment do not change that. It's honestly just gouging the consumer.
I'm glad we agree on this, To Joyful_3

I just can't fable why you would pay for online play when it's free on other consoles (Ignoring the fact that, right now, the PSN has problems) 60 bucks a year isn't that much, yeah, but, elsewhere, it's free.

How much have you paid for Xbox Live, by now? Because it's pretty much certain that I've paid less for both anything I bought on PSN and anything bought on the Wii Shop (And I buy a lot of crazy/useless stuff)
Playstation Store to return on May 24! Still no details on when the appreciation program will launch, but im excited to start buying some new games from smaller developers.

Incidentally, there was another exploit discovered on Sony's websites. Apparently all someone neede to do to regain access to your account was to enter your email and date of birth. Sony has since shut down its PSN related websites to examine the problems. At least the consoles are OK.

See, the idea is to avoid these kind of games. I wouldn't even mind like one payment to get access to it, at the beginning, but if they keep asking for money every month/year, it's not worth it. This isn't electricity of heat, it's an online gaming.

Anyway, couldn't find any sources confirming that ominous return of the PS Store anywhere. We'll see, I guess.
Hey guys, Bladeraider is correct! The PS Store will be up on the 24th!

Sweet! Guess I didn't search hard enough XD

Well, this is some good news, at last. Now, we'll be able to claim our free games Joyful_3

Way to selectively edit out the portion of my post that mentions that monthly pay for play MMOs are a rare breed. Though good on you to keep the portion of my post that mentions how they're paying money to play that specific game rather than paying money to have the privilege to play any game online.

With Final Fantasy XI on 360 you have to pay the $15 monthly fee alongside your Xbox Live Gold fee. Is there something like that on the PC and PS2 versions? No, you just pay the game's monthly fee.

final fantasy isnt made by microsoft tho? so i doubt that was microsofts edition
dcu was made by sony so it was 100% their descision
So, what does that change anything? That game was developed by Sony Online Entertainment, not Sony Computer Entertainment (who makes PlayStation products). SOE makes MMOs, and they make a few of which that are successful enough to support the pay-to-play model. SCE isn't charging you any additional fee to what SOE is.

MMOs do the pay to play model because they have updates a tonne more frequently than anything else and usually command a huge staff to support them. That's why there is either pay to play, or free to play where you basically have to spend loads of cash to be any good at it.

why is the division of where it's from important? it's still made by sony and published by sony, just like the ps3
But it is made from a different part of sony that doesn't make neither playstation nor playstation games. They make MMO's and you guys were saying playstation charges for online when technically you are wrong. SOE is charging not SCE.
Btw if you have a ps3 and psp do you get 4 games ?? Anyone know ???
