Edith Piaf was a renown singer in the early-mid 20th century. She fell in love with a celebrity boxer who was married. Their love was frowned upon because he was married. Finally, he decided to leave his wife for Edith. He got on the next plane from Egypt to see her in France and he died in a plane crash. She swore she would never love again and she never did (supposedly).

I am not quite a fan of those 'slow' love songs, though the best I have heard has to be Do you Know by Enrique Iglesias. Love it because of the line- Do you know what it feels like, loving someone who's in a rush to throw you away! It actually might be a bad feeling. You deeply love someone, and then you realize he/she hates you...
