It's kind of common sense that we can't be the only beings in the universe. Sure, none of the other planets in our solar system seem habitable, but that doesnt stop there being life forms that can stand those conditions and live.
As for the rest of the universe. We may never know what life exists out there, for all we know, there could be a parallel universe where they're doing near enough the exact things that we're currently doing.

Also, to think humans are the superior race is a very shallow way of mind. If we had no weapons and were forced to live out in the wilderness with next to nothing, I doubt we'd survive as well as most animals can in this day and age.

Anyway, rant over.
I was half tempted to just put "But the Universe?" "Screw the universe!" as my only line, but I opted for actually jotting my opinion down Smile

LOL can you post a link? I want to read. edit: N/M

I too think there are multiple universes, i just don't why I think so.

May, that shallow comment is pretty fair. But I disagree with your next sentence. It is part of our evolution to use our minds to solve our problems over our physical adaptations. That said I still think we'd be pretty resilent thrown into the wild with nothing.
good thought thought.

There is only one universe. The universe is all the matter and energy in existence regarded as a whole.

From Wikipedia (Because it is untrustworthy lol)

- The Universe is defined as everything that physically exists: the entirety of space and time, all forms of matter, energy and momentum, and the physical laws and constants that govern them. However, the term "universe" may be used in slightly different contextual senses, denoting such concepts as the cosmos, the world or Nature.

This is why I also noted earlier, "outside the natural world." Some people thought I was being sarcastic, but this is what I was referring too. Perhaps you're talking about Alternate Dimensions. If this is the idea, it is only a matter of time before the Twighlight Zone sucks us in forever!
How long will it take to find out weather or not?

Ugh, this was a long post again but yeah, I believe there's other life. It just doesn't make sense that there isn't.

The Problem is that life can only be held in very specific climates to survive.

Life as we know it can only be held in very specific climates to survive.

Know about those tiny animals that life at hundreds of degrees celcius in the bottom of the sea next to volcanoes that don't ever see daylight? They survive.

Took me about 7 seconds to check the weather on the BBC website.

In all seriousness I don't think anyone can really estimate when this will happen. Predictions like that can be so VERY wrong it wouldn't be worth trying.

Be careful with comments like these. Anyone with a difference in opinion may be apprehensive in voicing their input after reading this. That would defeat the purpose of having a discussion thread on whether or not intelligent life exists elsewhere. No one wants an agree-fest.

well i still think it's arrogant
I honestly have no idea. Though I will say I'm quite happy in my little bubble and I wish they'd stop trying to find out about things. I mean if there are hostile aliens why send out so many alerts and satelites? There could be friendly aliens or even nothing but I'd rather not take the risk. I think there's a lot more things on Earth that scientists should be focusing on instead at the moment. Like disease, global warming, etc.

Perhaps other races evolved at a slower rate. Maybe an "alien's" brain (or what have, erm, "it") just doesn't develop as quickly as ours. There's no real way to find out, at least, not at the moment.

I disagree with you first point, how can we progress as a whole if we don't ask questions. I think part of the problem with todays societies is a majority do not question much, they are fine not knowing more than their daily routine. even with 24hour news, many are in the dark about world events.

Your second bit though I agree with, we should gett our affairs inorder so to speak, then bother with space.
lol
Earth is prolly like a speck of dust in our planet compared to the universe. There are so many planets and we have found a few similair to Earth and that is just in our universe. And i doubt the conditions for aliens to live in will be identical to ours. Creatures evolve and adapt to the world around them.

I bet all my money there is another living life force somewhere else.

But IMO i would rather not know about it, after watching all these movies, i have a feeling aliens are far superior than us. Earth is still considered an early planet.

This, and considering we evolved over billions of years or whatever, and there's infinite time then we're an infinitesmall (or something) speck on the timeline if you get what I mean.
you guys know what really freaks me out?

what if we, the earth and the universe are just a stain on someones shirt, and if he wipes the stain off everything would just end?

i saw a gif once, showing how small everything, even the sun, is on a big scale

There's that bit in Men in Black, was it that or Men in Black 2? Either way, it zooms out tons and tons until it shows the universe is in some alien kid's marble he's playing with. It's AMAZING.

I think thats in number one. And then in number two they zoom uot really far and the world is just some aliens locker in a station.....or something like that.....Pinching_eyes_2

Okay I'm very sorry but how can one man think he's superior to another when THIS is out there. This is only the biggest known star in OUR galaxy. Gotta remember our galaxy could be a tiny infinitesmall speck. THIS ACTUALLY SCARED ME.

Nukes. Compared to this, they don't exist. Just think how small that speck of dust on your shirt would be. Think how small the atoms it is made of must be, how small the electrons inside it must be.
It doesn't really scare me.....I mean because it's just a film I guess I don't take it seriously. Uncertain

Did you WATCH the second one?

It kind of puts the whole
