DISCUSS!!!!
We did talk about this in the Random Thoughts thread but it does deserve its own thread.

I'm curious to see if any great photography games will come out utilizing the camera.
if they put the ability for recording or in game screenshots, it'll be the perfect handheld.

Upcoming PSP Firmware is rumored to have this option, and has a camera already.
it looks pritty cool, i just hope they make the mic better then the ds lite b/c i barely used mine and the mic died on it which didnt help so i couldnt finish phantom hourglass Tired; lol

by the pics it looks like it has been upgraded.
For anybody who doesn't know about this yet, here is a good summary from The Wiire:

The Wiire Wrote:Nintendo's next-gen handheld and sequel to the DS, the DSi, adds some excellent features to an already thriving portable platform. We'll see things like: dual touch screen, 12% thinner than the DS Lite, no GBA port, SD card slot, internal storage, 17% larger screens, onboard 640x480 camera, better speakers, MP3 and AAC playback with pitch and volume manipulation, a built-in Opera web browser, less charge time, less battery life, less weight, but much more awesomeness!

Aside from a load of fan service, Nintendo will be servicing you in many new ways... with this newly announced toy (this isn't going anywhere safe, is it?). The DSi will feature image manipulation using the touch screen, and using the SD card slot, will also allow for interaction with the Wii's Photo Channel. Wii Points will be renamed Nintendo Points (as I now call them, "NP's") for the newest in download services.

Gamers will be able to download games directly to the DSi's internal storage through the Nintendo DSi Shop, with price points of 0, 200, 500 and 800 NP's.

Said this in the other thread already, but I'm considering importing this right now due to Reggie's comments that the DSi may not make it over here until "well into 2009" because of the DS Lite's strong sales in NA.

Yeah, a ton of possibilities have been opened up, thats for sure. One interesting suggestion by Mike Suszek on The Wiire (who posted the article linked to), is video chat. It could be a possibility now taking into consideration the Wii Speak Channel Nintento also announced.
So is this an upgrade to the DS or its successor?

If it's the successor, disappointed to see no res or graphical upgrades ...

It's definately just an upgrade, and a set up for the real next DS in like 2011.

Just in time for graduation hahahahaha

I'm not really digging this new look...too mechanical.
im guessing its an upgrade because its still the ds. and there are just minor "improvements" its seems to me like they are doing the same thing as they are doin with the new psp. just adding little improvements and hoping people will upgrade just cuz its new. but this upgrade actually seems better with a camera. lol

Nintendo has been known to upgrade handhelds constantly.

Gameboy -> Gameboy Lite/Pocket -> Gameboy Color

Gameboy Advance -> Gameboy Advance SP -> Gameboy Advance Micro

Nintendo DS -> Nintendo DS Lite -> Nintendo DSi
Nintendo has referred to the DSi as a "third platform". It is not meant to compete with the DS Lite, according to them.

lmao
Can you say Cash Grab.
Lame IMO, I expected more.
Like as cool as a camera based games could be, paltry VGA resolution? Like its 2008. even though my phone is subsidised it has 2MP for $50 I paid. I thought I read 3MP somewhere?

I'll give it points for the camera placement and hinge, looks cool.

IT HAS TWO CAMERAS READ THE THREAD
I love how The Wire put less battery life right next to the "and more awesomeness!" last I checked that was a bad thing. If PSP Brite can stay about the same battery wise, why can't the DSi?

the psp doesn't have two cameras
Losing it's GBA slot won't be too good imo. I've always liked backwards compatibility.

Me too. However, the console being 12% slimmer may be advantageous in situations such as wanting to put it in your pocket without so much of a bulge.

I am certain that was a typo. It does sound odd though haha.
Nah, I believe reading the news yesterday morning it was confirmed it had less battery life.
Hmm, just looked it up. Apparantly the DSi's battery life has been shortened. Not that big of a deal anyways. Most people won't be playing their DS for hours on end while they are on the go.

isn't that the point of a portable

to play it for 10 hours straight...? I don't know about you, but I don't usually play my DS Lite for that long when I'm out.
