mariokart is core weather u like it or not!

thank you for proving you have no clue about why "core" gamers are upset with nintendo

Exactly. Crimson's response sums up why MKWii is no longer "core".

Well, didn't Nintendo call MKWii a "bridge" title or something? Something that both "core" and "casual" gamers could easily enjoy. Something that provided enough challenge for a "core" gamer, and something that a "casual" player could easily pick up and play. If that was their goal, then they succeeded.

So yeah, MKWii is not a "core" title, but I wouldn't say it is entirely "casual" either.
MKWii is an interesting case. I'm more inclined with agree with Kei, it is definitely more of a "bridge" title than anything else but there's no denying that Nintendo certainly nerfed the game in order to make it more accessible and that's really a shame because Mario Kart: Double Dash was one of my favorite games of last generation.

With MKWii it seems like they just took MKDS, up-res'd it a bit and released it with a plastic wheel. I rented the game from GameFly a few months back when I still had my Wii and I really was not impressed -- and this is coming from someone who put over 100 hours into MKDS. (FFX and others will remember, I was a carp BEAST at that game lmao)
i think the topic is about the conduit Confused

Still looking forward to this.

it looks horrible.
I admire the effort High Voltage is putting into this game as a Wii title and I think the Wii needs more games that try this hard, but honestly I still think the game looks like an incredibly generic first person shooter.
i donno about u guys but i find it good,ok wait for the multiplayer gameplay, maybe then u will like it
That gameplay vid is pretty cool, it is looking fun. I'm also getting a Half-life vibe from it, some of the weapons esp. Hope the puzzles are good though.

the youtube user is annoying though :\
^ lol i know but he is doing a great job, anything about the wii is there.hes my wii source Wink

maybe. but you forgot something very important roan, the controls Wink. they are way better than other incredibly generic first person shooter on othr systems.

have you ever played cod5 on wii?
It doesn't matter how good the controls are if the rest of the game is bland and uninteresting -- which it is.

The art and weapon designs aren't terrible. If the gameplay is solid, and it has one or two redeeming factors aside from story it should sell fairly well. Honestly, they couldn't fit a 80 hour campaign or whatever the hell MGS4 has one it; especially one with that good of stories. For the Wii it's more about gameplay really

isn't MGS4 a really short game without the cutscenes?

also, being on the wii is no excuse for generic art direction
Generic? I don't think the art looks that generic, with the neons and such. I mean, yea kinda gives a Halo meets Half Life feel; but I think the guns look very nice. The story is what I'm thinking will be generic

I respectfully diasagree, controls matter more than that; especially if they pull off these motion controls for once.
Doing so would make it fun to play even if it is bland, because as a whole the gameplay expirence would be unique to the Wii.

High voltage is probably offering the most customizable controls I have ever seen for any console title. HUDs + postiion, transparency too. they had a contest for default control scheme too btw.

FTR I think that Half-Life series is the bar for FPSs.
Roan what do you consider yours? as of now I'm really curious because you describe Killzone 2 as generic as well. or maybe what makes a quintessential generic fps? lol- resistance?

it has to be between 8-10 hours without cutscene if you blitz it. but that is missing out.fake edit: oh wait theres an achievement for under 5 hours.

I don't believe that MGS4 is that short though, took me 30 hours. some people seem to downplay act 3 and 4, but they are excellent, just difference pacing.

All in all, It could suck too.Speechless

The Conduit reminds me a lot of Red Steel -- everyone is super hyped on it because of the fact its an FPS on the Wii that looks decent, with motion control. Let me be the first to tell you, Red Steel's controls were awful. Now, I'm not saying that The Conduit's will be too, because they very well could be good, but what I'm saying is if the rest of the game sucks -- the art, the enemy A.I., the story, the environments, etc. (In my opinion all of these look pretty carp bad) -- what motivation is there to keep playing the game? Even if the core shooting experience is fun, I don't think I'd be willing to plow through the whole game for the sake of it.

I don't really have a bar as far as FPS games go, but the ones I play the most are Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, both of which brought new things to console shooters. Halo 3 with its amazing online options (4 player co-op, the Forge, saved films and screenshots as well as level sharing), and Call of Duty 4 brought amazingly precise controls to the console shooter space along with a very interesting single player campaign that had some really epic moments.

I think Killzone 2 looks generic because its not really innovating -- as I've said before this isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I know that Killzone 2 is probably a very good game despite that. My point with Killzone is that it just looks like a very solid, traditional shooter with amazing graphics. Like I said, not a bad thing or a mark against it, it just isn't doing anything to draw me in. Some might argue that the visuals are the big innovation and selling point, but that's really not enough for me.

And yes, Resistance 1 is a carp trash excuse for a shooter.

ok, thanks
Halo 3 definately has the most comprihensive online options ever. theater is genius.

can't comment on COD4, i still don't own it.. Unhappy (been out a year but its still much to expensive)

I think killzone 2 does offer an innovative 1st person cover system, excellent controls, and the MP is quite special. Personally I'm really amped about the AI, more than anything, appearently they flank, blindfire, use grenades like mofos.
but I agree it is not taking a huge risk:

"Final Word: Killzone 2 doesn't reinvent the wheel-it just makes the sexiest, slickest, best wheel you can imagine and then drives you at top speed down Kickass Blvd. all the way to Awesome City. Setting a new benchmark for FPS-and for what can be done with a PlayStation 3-Guerrilla Games has vindicated itself and created, at least for now, the best shooter on the market.- Dose.ca" just-just read this

hey pegasis sorry for derail ;p
^ I'd agree with that quote you posted, actually. I think Killzone 2 is a top-notch shooter with amazing graphics that just isn't taking a lot of risks. I think the game is playing it pretty safe, which is ok I guess, its just not appealing to me for some reason. I can't really pinpoint it.

And yeah, sorry pegasis... lmao

Actually no I'm not. Let's get back to talking about how bad this game looks. >=)
This game is quite unique since it's projected to be the best FPS on the Wii so far... It has unique controls that stray away from generic FPS controls on the 360 and ps3 and the controls are completely customizable down to the smallest detail. I'd say its going to be a very good, unique game

^ that wasnt me but i agree with him
i believe that any meh fps on 360 or ps3 with the wii controls plus u can customize it as u want and with the motion plus and wii speak and good online play will make it really good.

For once? Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 both has superb controls.

Also, MoH: H2 is about as bland as you can get, but I had a lot of fun with it because at its core, it was a good FPS; the art direction and story didn't matter to me. Perhaps it was because it was one of the first good FPS's on the Wii, but the fact of the matter is that I enjoyed it despite of its shortcomings in art direction and story.
bruceleroy;987009 Wrote:Reasons why the Conduit is hyped up:

5)brand new engine made specially for the Wii to push its capabilities
4)solid looking FPS that's not in the WWII era
3)wiimote gives FPS lovers a new innovative way to kill in games
2)wiimote is the most immersive way to play FPS games for some people
1)wiimote is the most fun out of the 3 type of controls for some people
