This makes me cry inside. Remember the time when owning a nintendo console actually meant something?

No?
Nintendo always delivers on their first party efforts.

Other than that... Not so much.

I kind of admire that, though. You can't really blame Nintendo for third parties not wanting to compete with them.
True, but if you think about it it's kind of stifling to third party creativity.

A lot of third party developers have great ideas for the Wii and Wii Remote but they know that Nintendo's own titles will stomp all over them at retail so it would be a wasted effort.

Not to mention the Wii and DS market is totally different from that of other consoles. Big, epic titles with engaging story lines and the like don't do as well on the Wii as they do on other consoles because the Wii and DS's installed bases are made up mostly of casual gamers who don't take interest in those sorts of titles.

I'm not saying that casual games can't be engaging and fun, because they definitely can. (Warioware anyone?) But as someone who has grown up with the industry I've sort of come to expect that the industry grow up and mature with me. I'm looking for more in-depth and, as much as I hate the word, "hardcore" games.

This is why I think success is truly in the eye of the beholder when it comes to Wii. Sure it's amazingly popular commercially, but I just don't bond with the system and it's vision, so to me, the Wii isn't so much of a success, despite it's commercial achievements.

I expected the Wii to revolutionize games as I knew them. That is, to take the huge, expansive, complicated games that I like and change them with a new control interface. Unfortunately for me, it turned out quite the opposite.

Now I'm not hating on the Wii. I think it deserves every bit of its success because Nintendo has put a lot of hard work into it and they're committed. But the Wii just doesn't suit my tastes in gaming personally. Tongue_out
I don't think it's fair to group the DS with the Wii. The DS is one of the best systems of all time and has plenty of titles to appease "hardcore" gamers. It's the swan song of 2D, for sure.

I don't feel bad for companies who can't compete with Nintendo's ideas. We can't say, "Hey Nintendo, you should do worse so third parties have a chance." They're just lazy. Developers are a bunch of whiners, seriously. I don't like the Wii as it is right now, but it's mostly the fault of third parties not willing to utilize the possibilities.

Seriously though, don't group it with the DS. D:
lol

I'm not grouping it with DS to show some sort of correlation between the two outside of their install base.

The Wii appeals to DS owners and vice versa because they share the same vision. That was the extent of my relationship with the two.

I agree though, the DS really is a carp awesome console and I'm more than satisfied with it.

As for your comments about Third Parties, I only somewhat agree. I don't think Nintendo should dumb themselves down to give others a chance because that's just stupid. But I do think they have a problem with third party support simply because their first party offerings are so strong and I can't see any real solution for that. :\
Solution: Third parties should stop making so much carp.

Another solution: Nintendo should stop licensing said carp to nip it in the bud. Wink

That might cause more problems than it's worth. There's been a lot of discussion about that.
So my Rock Band guitar's strum bar broke today. D:

I've already sent in for a replacement and apparently I get a free game too.

I picked Skate because the rest were carp. Pretty cool of EA to do that. :3
There is something about Chrono Trigger that's touched me in a way I can't shake. <3

Big surprise, eh? lmao

Anyhow, PH is a good game, but it's certainly not the best in the series. I really enjoyed it though. Smile
Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm expecting. Temple of the Sea King sounds D:
Yeah it really does suck carp. Having to redo levels in the dungeon over and over again is carp lame.

At least later on in the game they give you a checkpoint so you can start at about halfway down the dungeon so you don't have to do the WHOLE damn thing over again.

But aside from that, the game play is really clever and unique.
My friend sent me Kid Icarus on my wii as a christmas present. <3
