When a band makes it big with a song, there are always several other bands there to cover that song. Some are good covers, some are horrible. What are your thoughts on covers? What songs do you think are covered well and which do you think are covered horribly?
I think covers can be cool if the band covering the song takes it and really makes it their own rather than just recording the exact same song.
See: Thrice's cover of "Eleanor Rigby" by The Beatles.
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra did a nice cover of a Tetris theme.
Some nice trumpets and other ska elements were added into it. Very very cool.

That's similar to Shinedown's cover of "Simple man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd. They didn't do an exact copy of the song but instead changed it to acoustic only and added more emphasis on the vocals.
As much as I dislike shiny toy guns, I love their cover of "Stripped" by depeche mode.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQyb_zV51HM carp video but I love the song.
Funker Vogt also did a hilariously good cover of "Get off" by Prince.
Oh, thanks!
Just listened to it, and I must say, it has such a different feel when compared to Gackt's cover. Gackt's version feels much more powerful and sincere imo.
Sublime's cover of the Toye's song "Smoke Two Joints" is great ^^ Exactly what I want to hear in a cover.
My band does Nirvana and Sublime covers

That killed my ears the first time I heard it... they totally killed Helena
Helena was the first MCR song I ever heard. I really liked it a lot not just because of the great vocals, but it just flowed well together.
this cover ruined all of my appreciation for music
I don't remember who it was, but they covered Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones and totally ruined it. I tried finding who it was but over about 100 bands have covered it.
EDIT:
here's one of the worst covers of this song yet:

That was AWFUL...pure carp carp. The guitarist wasn't even using the right chords for the song
which is amazing, that song only has like 3 chords
Not sure what's the worst, probably the noodly drummer and horrific guitar player. I can't even hear the vocals to understand much more than what sounds like a guy that's trying to sing while being waterboarded with a toilet, plus they'rer all playing at different speeds in different keys.
How do you ruin an MCR song?
I mean carp, its not like they are technically challenging songs to play.
I did a pretty wicked Will Smith cover back in the day
Artie knows what's what
