So I'll be getting my Leopard on Friday. carp yeah seaking.
Boyfriend is amazingly excited about this - he's a Mac enthusiast and makes fun of me for using Windows. Unhappy After using a Macbook though, I friggin' want one.

What's new about this system?

There are about 300 new features, a lot of which just makes the already easy OS to navigate, even easier. And, he has good reason to make fun of you for using Windows. Going from OS X to XP all the time just about kills me.

I've used both Windows XP and OS X extensively and I don't see what the fuss is all about over either of them.

People get way too wrapped up in these OS "camps". Alice, your boyfriend is a great example. lol

I don't give a carp what it is as long as it works and it does what I need it to do. From the experience I've had using both XP and OS X, I think they both do that fine. I don't really have a preference between the two. I just use XP because it's what came on my computer. (Which was given to me, btw. lol)

OS X is just way easier to use (and x100000 better looking).

macs are all about asthetics and artistic stuff. theye usually geared towards that kind of stuff. whereas windows has more support for heavy development and programming aspects. lets just say that in all of my engineering classes everyone has a PC. in the nonenginering course i have its all macs
We have three Macs at home while my dad requested (and received) one from his workplace.

Dad's planning on getting Leopard later on (also for mom because she never backs up/saves anything and for some reason can't operate a USB drive).

I'm lovin' Macs, but Windows has the online gaming scene down.

There's a difference between something that works and something that works well.

I've had my MacBook for about two months now, and I don't know how I used Windows before. Everything seems to make so much more sense on OS X. The system feels far more organic; when my instinct tells me something should work, it usually does.

It seems to me that the majority (not ALL, the MAJORITY) of people who bash OS X have almost no experience with it, but the majority of the people who bash Windows have the most.
Plus, there are soo many shortcuts. It kills me to type German on a Windows machine; you have to set your own shortcut by going through all of these retarded steps. On a Mac, it's two simple key strokes.

Apple Q is also my best friend for life.

I'm certainly not one of these people and I hope you weren't implying that I am! I used Macs extensively in my Film and Animation classes Junior and Senior year of High School. You probably weren't referring to me anyway, but I wasn't bashing on OS X. lol I just said I don't have a preference either way. They both work and they do what I need to do. The thing is, like Fleets said, they are geared toward different purposes. For media (Creating videos and music, etc.) I wholeheartedly agree that OS X is better than Windows. Of course when it comes to gaming and general platform support, everyone knows Windows has the upper hand; but I think they're about even in the everyday usage category though (Word processing, web browsing and the like).

If it weren't for the poor (but steadily increasing) support from third parties, chances are good that I would own a Mac computer. I absolutely loved using GarageBand and Soundtrack to make music and there's nothing that even comes close to those two programs available on Windows.

I think the reason a lot of people use Windows over Mac is simply due to familiarity. Windows has been shipping with PCs for as long as I can remember and most people grew up using it. I know when I used OS X for the first time my Junior year I was a little lost. Granted, the two are similar enough that you can navigate just fine and having used iTunes on Windows previously I wasn't totally screwed, I'm just saying... Most people won't convert simply because they don't want to learn a whole new setup and really, that's a shame. :\

I guess what I'm really getting at is the fact that each OS has it's pros and cons and I don't really favor one over the other. The OS Extremists (Not calling anyone here one) however, piss me off. They seem to think their OS of choice, whether it be Windows XP/Vista or OS X is absolutely perfect and the company that makes them can do no wrong. I can't stand people like that that blindly ignore things just because they love the company. I'm sure everyone in this topic has run into someone who's like that at least once. lol

ryan you'd be using a mac if you weren't poor, period lol

i miss your old ghetto setup. mouse on a drum lol
I play video games, xp is necessary.

I don't have any problems with osx, I use it for my german labs. The close button being on the other side of the window is a pain in the carp though.

Ja, ich spreche sie Deutsch fur lange.

It's kinda sad, I'm not even sure if what I said is right or not.

Command+W is close, Command+Q is quit.

FYI, it makes way more sense to me having those buttons over there. I adapted to it pretty quickly.

I honestly never used Command+W. I always just used Q unless I was in Safari and had more than one window open. But then the update came along for tabbed browsing and then I really never used W. lol

No, I wasn't talking about you. Smile

I hate OS extremists as well, and particularly Apple apologists. It's completely ridiculous some of the things that they say. Macs aren't perfect (mine is lagging on TEXT ENTRY right now for something reason), but they are almost perfect for me. No viruses, and I don't play games. Awesome.
Whenever I get my next computer, it'll probably be a Mac. Smile
*Might be buying a MacBook within the next few months* It'd certainly stop me from investing my time in random MMORPGs. XD

Haha, you kind of had it. You got the correct form of sprechen, however the "sie" in my sentence is the formal way of saying "you". So really take out the "sie" and you're grand (and remember your ü umlauts, lol.)

So are you actually learning the language, or is it a side class? I really enjoy German, as it shares some roots with English, however you speak it in a very different manner (more teeth etc).

As for OS, I am mostly fed up with the new age Mac-Fags. You know, the ones who bought ipods and say they love Macs and Apple. I've used Macs all my life, and have always thought Windows to be carp.

Recently my Apple has been turning rotten, however I hope they get back on track; I don't want another Microsoft D:
Hey now, not all Mac newbies are like that. I've never even owned an iPod. D:
hence why i said the ipod only people who say how they love macs and carp about windows sucks (despite only owning a windows machine)

oh hey you dont have an ipod so you aren't in that group
These are my thoughts.

I now severely dislike Ipods, even having owned one for about a year (then promptly dying). It's a stupid fad, capturing the people who just want to conform to popular style.

from my limited experience of Macs:
Mac GUIs seem fairly nice

My biggest problem with macs is that the majority of software i like to use is developed primarily for windows. And i have become very proficient with XP, such that a transition to another OS would likely be a difficult experience.

Ultimately to solve everything by dual booting XP and some mac OS, and if possible tri boot also including with Vista too or quad boot by chucking in linux (why not?! B))too.

Hell is that possible >Smile But of course the prices of these operating systems are a bit ridiculous, and i need some new computer hardware first anyway.
