As I mentioned in the Random Thoughts topic the other night, I have started thinking about my next artistic project. It will be an electronic album similar to my previous works ("DISSONANCE" and "CELESTIAL"), but I am taking things in a far more creative and experimental direction this time around, which is saying something given my spacey/trippy backlog. lol

Anyhow, I don't have any tracks finished to share with you all at the moment (hell, I haven't even started on any of them), but I have been doing some concept work and planning. I typed up a brief (well, as brief as I possibly could anyhow) outline of what the album will consist of, and I'd like to share it with you all. So, without another word, here we go!

Concept Work for new record – Tentatively titled “EDEN”.

Basic Underlying Concept: “EDEN” is a concept record that seeks to tell a story, as most concept records do. But the difference here is that “EDEN” is not so much an album as it is an aural novel -- it will play out more like a novel than a traditional concept album. There should be a very clear beginning, middle and end. The album tracks should have a very dark, mechanical sound to them, bordering on a grating to listen to industrial “noise” style, as if they are very lo-fidelity, long lost recordings.

Basic Story Outline: “EDEN” is in and of itself a mystery. No one is really sure what the world it takes place in is, or if it is even real. The only factual information is the name of the setting: EDEN. The lyrics of the album aren’t as much lyrics as they are narration; the story is told through the point of view of multiple characters (3 characters/ 10 tracks total; Each character will have 3 tracks that tell their story, with one final objective, non-character driven track to serve as the conclusion), who all came to EDEN for different reasons. Whether it was to escape their painful personal lives by coming to a place of promised perfection like EDEN, or if it was to start their lives all over in a beautiful, near-perfect world such as EDEN, every character has their own motivations. As this is a dystopian style story, something must go horribly wrong to cause the perfect order of EDEN to collapse. What is that, you're wondering? Well, you'll have to wait until the album is done to find out. Like any good novel, I'd hate to spoil it for you all.

So what do you all think? Would this be something you're interested in listening to or am I stepping too far into experimental territory?

Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

"No!" says the man in Washington; it belongs to the poor.

"No!" says the man in the Vatican; it belongs to God.

"No!" says the man in Moscow; it belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something different. I choose the impossible. I chose....Eden. A city where the artist would not censored, where the scientists would not be bound by petty morality. Where the great would be not be constrained by the small. And with the sweat of your brow Eden can become your city, as well.

Can't wait dude. You know I'm a Utopian carp
hahahaha

Yes, let's just get that out of the way right now. My influences for this project are pretty obvious: BioShock, Brave New World, 1984, etc.
EDIT: The first cover is now the official cover -- I've removed the second one.

I came up with a couple of different possible album covers. Which do you guys prefer? I realize these are very simple designs, but that's how I intended them to be -- very clean, plain, sterile and "perfect" looking. There is an obvious metaphor in these images that plays back into the overall project.

Triple post, but I don't care.

I finished up the first two pages of the art booklet. These are HUGE glimpses into the direction I'm taking this project, so consider this a pretty big "sneak peek".

I like the first cover more.
I love your style (writing, music, graphics). I'm looking forward to this. For what it's worth I agree with Brad.

Thanks, it means a lot to hear this sort of thing. It really does.

Anyhow, I've updated my OP dramatically. I added in links to the first two art book pages, posted up the final, official cover art as well as the tentative track list.

Finally, I trimmed a bit of the story since I have adjusted the narrative somewhat to focus on putting more detail into a smaller amount of characters (now whittled down to three total characters) rather than trying to cover a huge event told through a vast amount of differing perspectives -- suffice it to say, the story was getting a bit convoluted.

I don't have much by way of a story outline now that I've trimmed it down, but I will be adding bits here and there as I progress on them.
Haven't posted about this in a while, so I figured I had better check in.

EDEN is taking a stylistically different direction. I have decided that my creative energies are not really tailored toward making music right now, so I have made the decision to turn EDEN into a poetry collection with the same goals as before, just without the music.

I'll have more details ironed out soon enough, and I'll be sure to post them here. I am planning on making this a visual/narrative combo still though, so all of the above artwork I have completed is still going to be included in the final product.
I was wondering if you'd make a poetry collection...
Will it be the same style as the stuff you've posted here, or will it have a completely different style?

Hmm... I'm not really sure what its going to be like.

But I am fairly certain that it is going to cover a lot of ground.
